Karan Johar, Farah Khan Praise ‘Yeh Prem Mol Liya’ Title Track as ‘Pure Indian Melody’

The title track of Sooraj Barjatya’s upcoming Yeh Prem Mol Liya has struck a chord with some of Bollywood’s biggest names within hours of its release, with filmmaker Karan Johar and choreographer-director Farah Khan both publicly praising the song’s old-school melodic sensibility on social media.

Johar took to his Instagram Stories to call it “a lovely lovely song,” writing that the track worked “when conviction supersedes everything… when storytelling tries no frills and fancies.” Farah Khan echoed the sentiment even more emphatically, posting: “After a long time, a pure Indian melody.. a pure Indian film.. lovvvv it.”

The song’s launch was marked by a live musical performance at Mumbai’s historic Royal Opera House, where composer Himesh Reshammiya performed alongside a 25-piece orchestra — a grand, old-world touch that mirrors director Sooraj Barjatya’s own approach to filmmaking, known for its family-centric storytelling and elaborate musical set-pieces.

Speaking at the launch, Barjatya reflected on the joy of picturising songs with three full antaras in an era of shorter, algorithm-friendly music, noting that himself, Aditya Chopra and Karan Johar represent “the last batch of directors” who experienced that style of song-filming firsthand — a comment that added a layer of nostalgia to the evening’s celebrations.

With Ayushmann Khurrana and Sharvari headlining and a supporting cast stacked with veteran performers, Yeh Prem Mol Liya is shaping up as one of the more anticipated family entertainers of the year-end release slate, banking on Barjatya’s trademark blend of tradition, music and old-fashioned romance.

The praise from both Johar and Khan comes at a time when Hindi film music has increasingly leaned toward shorter, hook-driven tracks built for reels and short-form platforms, making the warm reception for a traditionally structured melody feel like something of a statement about audience appetite swinging back toward fuller compositions.

Reshammiya’s collaboration with Ghoshal, two of the industry’s most recognisable voices, has also fuelled early buzz, with fans on social media drawing comparisons to the composer’s earlier soundtrack work for Barjatya-style family dramas from the 2000s.
