Gadadhari Bheem: Karan Johar’s Bold Mythological Superhero Bet, Explained

Karan Johar has built his name on glossy love stories and family dramas. His next big swing is a mace-wielding superhero from the Mahabharata.

As reported by Pinkvilla, Dharma Productions is moving ahead with Gadadhari Bheem, described as a modern mytho-superhero action drama. For a banner famous for romance, this is a real change of lane.

What We Know So Far on Gadadhari Bheem?

Why This Film Matters?

This is Dharma Productions’ first-ever superhero film. It is a risky move, but a smart one. Indian audiences already know Bheem’s strength, his temper and his loyalty. The makers don’t have to build a hero from scratch, because the story is already in the audience’s heads.

The film is also planned as a big-screen theatrical experience, with the focus on emotions and visuals. That matters because the best mythological films work when the spectacle has heart.

The Director’s Genre Switch

Abhishek Varman is best known for romantic dramas like 2 States and Kalank. Superhero action is new ground for him. It is also his third collaboration with Dharma, so the trust between filmmaker and studio is clearly there.

Will a romance specialist make a convincing powerhouse of a hero? That is the big question hanging over the project, and part of why people are watching it.

A Growing Mythology Slate

Gadadhari Bheem isn’t Johar’s only epic. Pinkvilla earlier reported that he has green-lit a divine spectacle on the Radha Krishna love story. Together, the two projects suggest Dharma is placing a serious bet on mythology.

Hindi cinema has been leaning into epics lately, so the timing makes sense. Looking for more big-screen updates? Keep an eye on our Bollywood news section and our entertainment coverage for the latest.
