The fifth and final season of fan-favourite drama Outer Banks is slated to premiere on Netflix on August 20. It will not be a prolonged goodbye — the entire 10-episode Season 5 will be released as a binge drop, after the series’ fourth installment was split into two batches that premiered four weeks apart.

The Trailer: What It Shows

On July 29, Netflix dropped the official trailer for Outer Banks Season 5, which picks up in the aftermath of JJ’s tragic death at the end of last season.

The first official trailer for the upcoming fifth and final season of Netflix’s hit action adventure series shows John B (Chase Stokes) watching in horror as Cleo (Carlacia Grant) blows up his beloved van.

“The legend is that the crown can bring back the dead,” Kiara (Madison Bailey) tells the group. The Pogues don’t need much convincing to go all in on this adventure. They’re at rock bottom, and they can only go up from here. On top of this side quest, they’re all gunning for JJ’s dad, Groff (J. Anthony Crane), who killed his own son.

The Story: One Last Adventure for the Pogues

Immediately picking up from the events of the season four finale, we follow the Pogues at their lowest point after the devastating loss of JJ in Morocco. Stranded far from home and without the Blue Crown, they face mounting threats from Chandler Groff, Dalia and more.

So John B (Chase Stokes), Sarah (Madelyn Cline), Kiara (Madison Bailey), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), and Cleo (Carlacia Grant) must rely on their scrappy instincts — and an uneasy alliance with Rafe (Drew Starkey) — to keep from falling apart for good. The Pogues are in a desperate race to reclaim their future and finally win the freedom they’ve long been fighting for.

Last season’s shocking finale saw Chandler Groff (J. Anthony Crane) kill his own son, JJ (Rudy Pankow), in front of Kiara (Madison Bailey), and she’s not going to let him get away with it. The Pogues are out for revenge.

A Global Production: Filmed Across the World

Outer Banks films in Charleston, South Carolina for the OBX scenes. But this year, they went global. “We filmed in Croatia this past year, and that was so epic,” Madelyn Cline confirmed.

Netflix also announced a fan event, Pogues for Life: A Fan Farewell Event, set to take place on August 15 in Los Angeles, featuring cast members Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Carlacia Grant and Drew Starkey. Fans will get the chance to join the cast as they bid farewell to the series and vote in the inaugural fan-voted award show, the Pogue Awards. Following the cast conversation, the crowd will get the chance to see the first episode of Season 5, days before it hits the platform.
