OFFICIAL: IPL Governing Council approves ‘MEGA-AUCTION’ dates; will be held in Bengaluru on 12 and 13 February

The IPL Governing Council (GC) officially verified the dates for the Mega Auction, in its meeting on the last Sunday. The IPL Auctions will be taking place in Bengaluru on February 12th and 13th.

The Governing Council (GC) had gone through the report which was earlier submitted by BCCI. The BCCI had appointed a legal committee on CVC Capital’s alleged partnership with betting companies. BCCI has given a green signal to the Ahmedabad franchise, GC is yet to give its approval.

IPL Governing Council’s major decisions

  • IPL 2022 Mega Auction Dates & Venue: IPL Auctions will be held on Feb 12th & 13th in Bengaluru. The IPL dates have been officially announced by GC.
  • CVC Ownership of Ahmedabad Franchise: The committee appointed by BCCI is headed by Justice KS Radhakrishnan, a retired judge of the Supreme Court. He  has given green signal to the American company’s ownership of Ahmedabad franchise.
  • Signing Deadline of the new franchises: The IPL GC verified the new deadlines for the new IPL Franchises to finalize their dates before the Mega auction signings. BCCI had given time up to December 25 for the new teams to submit their list of players signed outside the auction but the dateline will be extended for sure. The new timeline will be announced right after the announcement pertaining to ownership of the Ahmedabad franchise.
  • IPL Media Rights Tender: KPMG is working on to check the validity and utility of E-Tendering for the IPL Media Rights.
  • IPL 2022 Plan B:  IPL GC discussed the Plan B for IPL 2022 Season 15, discussing about the precautions that are to be taken ahead of the commencement of the league.

Sourav Ganguly, who’s the president of BCCI has confirmed that the IPL Media Rights Tender will be discussed soon. The proposal will be released by December 2021 but the final dateline could not be finalised in the GC meeting.

The potential bidders for the rights

Disney Star Network, Sony, Reliance Viacom 18 and Amazon Prime Video have the highest chances to get the IPL Media Tender Rights.
