All eight episodes of Monster Season 4 will drop globally on Netflix on Tuesday, September 17th, 2026. Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s creation is a limited series of eight episodes and will be released all at once so that you can binge the entire season in one day.

The Story: When Repression Turns to Rage

Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story tells the story of how one young woman changed what the world believed a killer could be… all it took was an axe.

“When the repressed daughter of a wealthy New England family and her rebellious maid find themselves trapped in a house built on humiliation and cruelty, they escape into a fantasy of sex, power, and revenge,” reads the official synopsis.

Borden is the infamous Massachusetts woman who was accused of the 1892 axe murder of her parents. Beatty stars as the accused axe murderer who was tried and acquitted in the 1892 killings of her father and stepmother in Fall River, Massachusetts.

The case has inspired several retellings over the years, including the 1975 TV movie The Legend of Lizzie Borden, Lifetime’s 2014 Lizzie Borden Took an Ax and 2018’s Lizzie starring Chloë Sevigny and Kristen Stewart.

The Cast: Ella Beatty Leads a Powerhouse Ensemble

Netflix has shared a poster and first look images for Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, the next chapter in Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s Monster anthology series and the first to tackle a female ‘Monster’ with Ella Beatty starring as the infamous “axe murderer” alongside Vicky Krieps as Bridget Sullivan, Rebecca Hall as Abby Borden, and Charlie Hunnam as Andrew Borden.

Billie Lourd, Joey Pollari, Sarah Paulson and Jessica Barden round out the cast.

Ella Beatty: The First Female Monster

After an extensive search, Murphy and Brennan chose Ella Beatty as the actor to bring Lizzie to life. Beatty previously appeared in Murphy’s Feud: Capote vs. The Swans; she can also be seen in Mary Bronstein’s Oscar-nominated Sundance sensation If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.

Beatty said of the series: “I am so excited for viewers to experience our exploration of Lizzie Borden’s story and the questions that her life animates to this day. It has been a dream come true to investigate this complicated person’s psychology and to examine an American crime that feels almost mythic in proportion. A Bold New Direction for the Franchise

Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s hit true-crime anthology series Monster is returning for its fourth season. Netflix secretly renewed the anthology juggernaut for a fourth outing to cover the infamous 19th-century Lizzie Borden murders. Filmed between September 2025 and March 2026 under the working title Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, the new season takes the franchise in a bold, darkly comic new direction.
