Messi hinted at his retirement after the World Cup

It’s difficult to believe, but Leo Messi’s career with Argentina is coming to an end; he recently played his final official game for the national team in Argentina. The storied ‘Bombonera’ stadium was filled to honor the great, who scored the game’s final goal and led his teammates to another victory.

Hints for Messi’s Retirement

This Messi is not the same as the one who is currently playing for PSG; he genuinely appreciates serving his nation, and he was well aware that this was his final game in front of his home crowd.

The stadium that had previously greeted Diego Maradona was now poised to welcome one of the greatest Argentine footballers of all time, second only to ‘Pelusa.’ Leo concluded the game and was greeted by a raucous ‘Bombonera’ crowd, who were visibly moved as they waved farewell to their huge star.

After beating Venezuela, Lionel Messi said: “I can only think about what’s coming next, I only think about facing Ecuador. After the World Cup, I will have to rethink many things. “

Messi and Di Maria

Angel Di Maria, another veteran who excelled and even scored for the national team, isn’t the only one who played his farewell game for Argentina on home soil. Lionel Scaloni has transformed this team into one of the best in Conmebol; they are set to compete in the forthcoming World Cup in Qatar, but we must wait and see if they are capable of going all the way.

They have been at the forefront of South American football throughout the qualifications, with Messi as their great leader. Scaloni was able to teach all of the newcomers how to get along with the PSG star without alienating him. As a result, one of the first notable outcomes of this experiment was the Copa America triumph in 2021.

Can Argentina win the Cup with Messi?

Given that other teams such as France, Belgium, Spain, Brazil, Uruguay, England, and Germany have already qualified, this is a long shot. Argentina has been one of the most dominant teams in recent years, but facing the very best will be a challenge.

It all varies based on how motivated and physically fit Leo Messi is for that tournament. Take note that Qatar will still seem like a desert in December, with sweltering temperatures. Leo has had an incredible run as an Argentina player, ultimately winning his first title with the team, but he wants to retire after a final attempt at winning the World Cup.
