LIK (Love Insurance Kompany) Review: A Bold Sci-Fi Concept That Loses Steam — But SJ Suryah Makes Every Scene Count

After multiple postponements, Love Insurance Kompany (LIK) has finally made it to theatres on April 10, 2026. Directed by Vignesh Shivan with a power-packed cast of Pradeep Ranganathan, Krithi Shetty, and SJ Suryah, this Tamil sci-fi romantic comedy had sky-high expectations — and delivers a mixed bag that’s fun in parts but uneven overall.

Love Insurance Kompany at a Glance

What’s Love Insurance Kompany Story?

Set in 2040, LIK is built around a fascinating premise: a world where technology and algorithms have replaced human emotion in finding love. Vasu (Pradeep Ranganathan) hails from a village called Pasume Ulagam (Organic World) — a tech-free utopia — and works as the voice of an advanced romance-finding app. When he falls for Dheema (Krithi Shetty) despite the algorithm predicting their incompatibility, the company itself becomes the villain of their love story.

It’s a clever idea. The problem? The execution doesn’t always keep pace with the concept.

What It Works ?

The film’s world-building is genuinely impressive. The futuristic setting feels lived-in and original, peppered with clever easter eggs that reward attentive viewers. Pradeep Ranganathan brings natural charm and good comic timing to the lead role, making Vasu easy to root for — even if the character treads familiar ground.

The real standout, however, is SJ Suryah as the light-hearted antagonist. He is an absolute scene-stealer — perfectly pitched between goofy and menacing — and every scene he’s in crackles with energy. He is, without question, the film’s biggest highlight.

On the technical front, Anirudh Ravichander’s music is a significant asset — the songs and background score elevate the film considerably. And Ravi Varman’s cinematography is, as always, visually stunning.

What Doesn’t Work ?

Despite its promising setup, LIK struggles badly with consistency — particularly in the second half. The humor, which should be the backbone of a romantic comedy, is uneven and occasionally crass. The screenplay loses momentum when it matters most, leaning on repetitive tropes that feel recycled from director Vignesh Shivan’s earlier films.

Poorly integrated AI-driven elements and a dragging second act make it difficult to stay fully invested. The film needed tighter editing and a sharper comedic vision to fulfill its potential.

Krithi Shetty is likeable but underutilized, with her character not given enough depth beyond being bubbly and charming.

Conclusion

LIK is a watchable, feel-good entertainer with a genuinely original sci-fi premise, gorgeous visuals, and a phenomenal Anirudh score. But it’s weighed down by inconsistent humour and a meandering second half that fails to match the ambition of its concept. For hardcore rom-com fans, it’s still worth a theatre visit — just temper your expectations.
