Sometimes a film has everything going for it on paper and still doesn’t connect at the box office. That’s the painful reality Pradeep Ranganathan and director Vignesh Sivan are facing with Love Insurance Kompany (LIK) — a sci-fi comedy that opened well but faded fast.
The film added just Rs. 45 lakh on its second Wednesday, taking the 13-day cumulative total to Rs. 40.45 crore gross at the Indian box office. For a film that opened to Rs. 7.75 crore on Day 1, the drop-off has been steep and unforgiving.

What Went Wrong?
The opening weekend was genuinely promising — Rs. 25.25 crore in three days is nothing to dismiss. But the weekday collapse told a different story. Word of mouth clearly didn’t hold up, and audiences weren’t returning.

The film is now expected to close its second week around Rs. 41 crore gross, before crawling towards a Rs. 45 crore lifetime — making it Pradeep Ranganathan’s lowest-grossing film as a lead actor.
That’s a tough verdict for a director-actor combination that had genuine goodwill coming in.
What Is LIK Actually About?
Set in the year 2040, the film follows Vasu, a young man in a world where an algorithm-based love insurance company claims to perfectly match every couple. When Vasu falls in love with Dheema — an incompatible match according to the app — he becomes the only threat to the company’s flawless record, and must battle corporate opposition to win his love story.
It’s a genuinely clever premise. Science fiction comedy as a genre has enormous potential in Indian cinema, which makes the box office underperformance sting a little more — the idea deserved a better landing.
The film features Krithi Shetty, SJ Suryah, Gouri G Kishan, and Yogi Babu in key supporting roles, alongside Pradeep Ranganathan in the lead.
