Lenovo Secures Eighth Position in Gartner Supply Chain Top 25 for 2023

Lenovo, a renowned global technology company, has once again been recognized in the prestigious Gartner Supply Chain Top 25 for 2023. Ranked eighth among global companies with exceptional supply chains, Lenovo’s inclusion in this list highlights its commitment to supply chain excellence and innovation.

Lenovo ranks Eighth in the Gartner(R) Supply Chain Top 25 for 2023

The Gartner Supply Chain Top 25 celebrates and profiles companies that have achieved outstanding supply chain performance on a global scale, considering regional and industry-specific factors. This annual ranking, now in its 19th year, serves as a benchmark for chief supply chain officers (CSCO) and their teams, inspiring innovation and leadership.

The Supply Chain Top 25 ranking is based on two main components: business performance and opinion. Business performance is evaluated using public financial and ESG (environmental, social, governance) data, providing insights into a company’s performance over the past three years. The opinion component assesses future potential and leadership within the supply chain community. These components are combined to create a comprehensive composite score.

Lenovo has fully embraced digital transformation within its complex and global supply chain. By leveraging advanced technologies such as 5G, AI, AR/VR, Blockchain, Big Data, and IoT, the company has significantly reduced lead times for customers by over ten days, all while shipping an impressive four devices per second. This commitment to innovation and efficiency led to Lenovo’s Hefei Factory, LCFC, being added to the World Economic Forum’s Global Lighthouse Network of 132 leading manufacturers, recognized for their integration of fourth industrial revolution technologies.

With a unique global hybrid manufacturing footprint consisting of more than 35 factories, Lenovo’s supply chain is a core strength of the company. Last year, the company expanded its manufacturing capabilities by establishing its first European in-house manufacturing facility in Budapest, Hungary. This facility focuses primarily on building server infrastructure, storage systems, and high-end PC workstations, resulting in reduced customer delivery times across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Lenovo’s global/local model, which involves building devices locally, also contributes to more efficient and sustainable transportation options by reducing the product’s freight miles.

Lenovo places great emphasis on supply chain security and has made significant investments in developing an innovative and resilient supply chain. The company has implemented robust cybersecurity measures, including a trusted supplier program that effectively manages third-party risks. Moreover, Lenovo has implemented stringent physical security measures throughout its logistics process to safeguard its products from manufacturing to delivery and operationalization in customers’ environments.

Che Min (Jammi) Tu, Senior Vice President and Group Operations Officer at Lenovo, highlighted the company’s commitment to digitalization and its positive impact on customers worldwide. Tu stated, “By investing in new technologies, such as AI, Lenovo has improved forecast modeling and scheduling time efficiency, leading to numerous benefits for our customers as we adapt to an ever-changing world.”

Lenovo’s dedication to sustainability is evident through its recognition as one of the first companies to receive Net-Zero validation from the Science Based Targets initiative. The company’s targets for greenhouse gas emissions reduction have been validated by the Net-Zero Standard, setting it apart as the first PC and smartphone maker to achieve this. Lenovo has also forged partnerships with industry leaders like Maersk and Kuehne and Nagel to explore more sustainable ocean and air freight transportation options.

Looking ahead, Lenovo remains committed to reducing its emissions and has set ambitious goals to achieve net-zero emissions. As part of its commitments, the company aims to reduce scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030.
