Reality TV has a way of turning private conversations into public storms, and Lock Upp 2 just had one of its biggest ones yet. After a clip of contestant Shilpa Shinde making derogatory personal remarks about co-contestant Shivangi Joshi went viral, actress Jannat Zubair stepped up publicly to defend her friend.

What Sparked the Backlash
In a conversation with fellow contestant Shreya Kalra, Shilpa Shinde was seen mocking Shivangi Joshi’s personal life, mimicking her in a mocking tone and making crude, unfounded remarks about her private choices and past relationships with co-stars, including actor Kushal Tandon. The exchange, with Shreya reportedly laughing along, quickly drew backlash online, with many calling it character assassination rather than harmless banter.
Jannat Zubair’s Response
Taking to her Instagram Stories, Jannat Zubair didn’t hold back in defending her friend. She wrote that it’s troubling how easily people judge someone’s character without truly knowing them, adding that she’s known Shivangi for years and stands by the person she knows her to be. Jannat made clear that disagreement or criticism is fair game, but that attacking a woman’s character should never be treated as entertainment, closing her message with a note of solidarity for Shivangi.
Her comments quickly resonated with fans and industry voices who had already been calling out the incident, adding more weight to the growing criticism directed at Shilpa’s remarks.
The Bigger Picture
This isn’t the first time Lock Upp 2 has generated headlines around personal drama rather than the show’s usual competitive format — a pattern common across reality television formats built around close quarters and constant conflict. With Madhuri Grover’s recent elimination also making news, the season continues to keep fans talking well beyond the competition itself.
