The Exchange of “Gifts”

The match kicked off with an intriguing exchange of “gifts.” While Bengaluru FC played the role of generous hosts, it was the Blasters who capitalized on the presents offered by their opponents. The Blasters took the lead in the 52nd minute when Keziah Veendorp unintentionally scored an own goal.

Gurpreet Singh Sandhu’s Costly Errors

Bengaluru’s custodian and skipper, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, played a pivotal role in the outcome of the game. In the 69th minute, he gifted a goal to his counterpart, Adrian Luna, with a lapse in ball handling. Earlier in the game, Gurpreet’s casual mistake led to a corner that ultimately resulted in the Blasters’ opening goal.

A Night of Defensive Lapses

The match showcased a series of defensive lapses, with all three goals being the direct outcome of poor defending. While it’s natural to expect some rustiness in the first game of the season, questions may arise about Bengaluru’s defensive performance.

Tactical Analysis

Bengaluru FC struggled to match the tempo set by the Blasters, particularly in the wide areas. The Blasters dominated with a 3-5-2 formation, making it challenging for Bengaluru’s full-backs, Roshan and Jessel Carneiro, to find space.

Roshan, deployed as a right-back, initially had difficulty getting involved but eventually found his rhythm. He came close to giving Bengaluru the lead with a dipping cross that was expertly dealt with by an awkwardly positioned Sachin Suresh.

Jessel Carneiro, who captained the Blasters last season, had a tough time replicating his attacking runs on Bengaluru’s left flank. His duel with the crafty Japanese winger Daisuke Sakai even led to a booking for a necessary foul on the edge of the box.

In midfield, Jeakson and Farooq maintained a strong pivot, making it challenging for Bengaluru to penetrate through the center. Despite winning possession easily, the Blasters struggled to find the cohesion they needed in the final third.

Sivasakthi vs. Milos Drincic

A notable matchup in the game was between Sivasakthi and Milos Drincic. Sivasakthi found himself closely marked by the imposing Montenegro center-back, Drincic, who earned a loud cheer from the crowd when he successfully dispossessed the young Indian attacker.

The ISL Season 10 opener provided football fans with an entertaining clash between Bengaluru FC and Kerala Blasters.
