Friendship on the Edge of Something More: “Summertime” Premieres This Week

Some summers change everything. That’s the promise behind “Summertime,” the upcoming Korean BL drama set to premiere this week, following two childhood friends whose bond is quietly tipping into something neither of them can ignore.

A Friendship Tested by New Feelings

“Summertime” follows Yeo Eun Ho (Kim Do Min) and Cha Do Hyun (Seong In Ho), longtime friends navigating the blurry line between friendship and love. Preview stills released ahead of the premiere reveal that Do Hyun has quietly carried one-sided feelings for Eun Ho for a long time. But things shift when a new transfer student, played by Lim Young Min, enters the picture — and Do Hyun starts to feel the ground shift beneath him as he watches Eun Ho grow closer to someone else.

The genre itself, Boys’ Love, has grown into a major storytelling category across Asian entertainment, known for centering emotionally layered romances between male leads, and “Summertime” looks to bring a coming-of-age spin to that tradition.

Summertime: Overview

What the Stills Reveal

The newly released images lean into nostalgia and quiet tension, capturing the easy familiarity of childhood friendship alongside the subtle unease of unspoken feelings. Fans have picked up on small visual cues throughout the stills — lingering glances, physical closeness, and moments where Do Hyun’s composure seems to waver whenever Eun Ho’s attention drifts elsewhere. It’s a setup that promises plenty of slow-burn tension as the series unfolds.

With Kim Do Min already familiar to K-drama audiences from projects like TWENTY-TWENTY, and Seong In Ho stepping into a role built on restrained longing, the pairing has generated real anticipation ahead of launch. Whether Do Hyun’s feelings finally surface, or the arrival of a new face complicates things further, “Summertime” looks set to deliver the kind of emotional slow build that BL fans tend to gravitate toward.

The series premieres August 28, giving fans just days to catch up on the teaser and get ready for the first episode drop.
