Daredevil is getting its Marvel Cinematic Universe revival, and the surprise appearances just started rolling in. Mike Colter and Finn Jones were spotted on the set of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ alongside Krysten Ritter, reuniting three major players from Netflix’s original ‘The Defenders’ saga. The sightings have sent shockwaves through the fan community, raising critical questions about which characters are returning and how extensively the legacy cast will factor into Marvel’s reboot of the blind vigilante’s story.
What the Set Photos Reveal About Daredevil’s Direction
The presence of Colter (Luke Cage), Jones (Iron Fist), and Ritter (Jessica Jones) on set signals something huge: Marvel isn’t throwing away the Netflix era. Daredevil Born Again looks like it’s shaping up as a continuation that honors what came before, not a clean slate that ignores it. Charlie Cox returns as Matt Murdock, and Vincent D’Onofrio reprises Wilson Fisk, but having the Defenders crew show up changes everything about how connected this universe really is.
These aren’t throwaway cameos either. Bringing three major legacy characters together requires serious coordination, which suggests they’ll play actual roles in the story rather than just getting quick mentions.
Why These Casting Choices Matter for the MCU
Here’s the thing: Marvel Studios spent years keeping its distance from Netflix’s Marvel properties. Now they’re actively bringing legacy cast members into Daredevil Born Again, which represents a real strategic shift. It signals that those earlier shows created genuine fanbases and characters people genuinely connect with. Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones aren’t just nostalgia—they’re meaningful anchors for the story.
The MCU has taken heat for treating street-level heroes as second-tier. Bringing back Colter, Jones, and Ritter suggests Marvel is ready to take that corner of the universe more seriously. Netflix just showed audiences how much legacy content still matters, and this move follows that same thinking: people want continuity, not erasure.
The real question is whether these characters show up as full supporting players or as bridge cameos leading to their own MCU projects.
Fan Theories and What We Know So Far
The speculation is intense. Does Luke Cage’s appearance mean his immunity to harm becomes crucial in the conflict with Fisk? Is Iron Fist connected to a mystical storyline? The Defenders always clicked when their stories overlapped, and Born Again might finally give Marvel the budget and creative space to pull that off properly.
One thing’s clear: you don’t cast major MCU actors randomly. Every person spotted on set has a purpose. The real question isn’t whether they’re in the show—it’s how important they are to the plot. Since production is actively filming with multiple legacy players present, expect these characters to have meaningful roles (according to VentureBeat AI).
