Four years later, a throwaway line from a post-credits scene is suddenly the MCU’s biggest question. Clea’s promise to “fix” an incursion sounded simple back then. After seeing how Avengers: Doomsday sells the same threat, it sounds almost naive.
Doctor Strange 2: The Incursion Story
| Element | Then (2022) | Now (Doomsday marketing) |
|---|---|---|
| Tone | A mess to clean up | An existential threat |
| Key voice | Clea (Charlize Theron) | Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) |
| Universes at risk | One | Earth-616, Earth-10005, Earth-828 |
| Outlook | Fixable | Possibly unstoppable |
What Clea Promised Strange?
At the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Clea tells Strange he caused an incursion and that they’re going to fix it. Incursions happen when universes collide, and left alone, they destroy both worlds. Since then, neither character has been seen, and Marvel has yet to green-light a third Doctor Strange film. Strange is also notably absent from the Doomsday cast list.

Why Doomsday Changes the Tone?
The official synopsis describes heroes from three universes on a “deadly collision course.” That doesn’t sound like something a quick trip to the Dark Dimension can repair.
Doom’s own warning is even bleaker. He says something is coming that we may not be able to deter, and an “unthinkable decision” awaits. Downey also captioned a poster with “Nothing gets fixed gently.” Either Clea was overconfident, or Doom doesn’t know her fix exists. In the comics, she eventually becomes Sorcerer Supreme, so she may still hold a few secrets.
Could Doom Win and Build Battleworld?
Here’s the fan theory gaining steam. Every sign suggests the heroes fail to stop the incursion, much like in Infinity War. Doom might absorb enough multiversal power to become God Emperor, forming Battleworld, the patchwork planet from Jonathan Hickman’s Secret Wars comics.
That would fit Kevin Feige’s confirmation that Avengers: Secret Wars will streamline the MCU into one simpler universe. In that reading, Clea’s fix never arrives, and the incursion wins.
