A Welcome 40 Per Cent Jump
Most films dip on weekdays, so a 40 per cent spike on Tuesday is a pleasant surprise. Kids are likely driving the numbers, and the film is on track to close its first week somewhere between Rs 13 and 15 crore gross. Note that these are gross figures, not nett.
Can It Become a Success?
The report is optimistic. If the film keeps gaining traction in the coming weeks, it will emerge as a successful venture at the box office. Based on current trends, the total run in India is projected at around Rs 20 to 25 crore gross. For an anime release, that’s a very respectable number.
For background on the franchise, see Doraemon on Wikipedia.
What Is the Movie About?
The story follows Nobita and his friends on an undersea camping adventure, powered by Doraemon’s futuristic gadgets. Their trip leads them to the hidden Mu Federation, where they discover something terrifying. Atlantis’s rogue AI, Poseidon, has activated a weapon capable of destroying Earth.
The group teams up with Mu’s El and heads into the Bermuda Triangle to stop Poseidon. Whether they succeed is what the film explores, and it’s a classic Doraemon mix of adventure, friendship and a little science fiction.
Why Anime Is Winning in India
Doraemon has a huge, multi-generational fan base in India, and family audiences often turn up in numbers during holiday periods. That loyal following gives the film a steady footing even when bigger releases compete for screens.
