The comedy explores the everyday chaos, hilarious misunderstandings, emotional bonds, and unexpected friendships that develop among neighbours.

The series is based on themes of contemporary marriages, modern-day parenting, ageing friendships, emotional core, shared lives, and neighbourhood dynamics.

The Creators: Sarabhai vs Sarabhai and Khichdi Duo Return

From writer-director and co-producer Aatish Kapadia and producer, showrunner JD Majethia — the creative duo behind India’s most-loved cult-classics, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai and Khichdi — Chumbak brings back “the warmth, wit and razor-sharp observations that have made their storytelling a favourite across generations.”

Producer and Showrunner JD Majethia and Writer, Director, and Co-Producer Aatish Kapadia said, “With Chumbak, we wanted to celebrate something we’ve all experienced but perhaps don’t appreciate enough anymore – the beautiful chaos of nostalgic neighbourhoods where no one needs an invitation to drop by, and neighbours slowly become family. Comedy has always been our way of telling stories about people and relationships, and with Netflix, we found the perfect partner to bring our signature style of family comedy to audiences across the country and around the world.”

Netflix India’s Take on Chumbak

Tanya Bami, Series Head, Netflix India said, “Chumbak is our latest offering in the comedy genre – a genre our members enjoy on Netflix. In our lives today, our neighbours become our extended family and JD & Aatish have created a world to bring this community, its bonds, its oddities, and its dynamics to life! We hope the world of Chumbak and its magnetic characters will feel familiar and lived in as they go through their life grappling with themes like contemporary marriages, modern day parenting, ageing friends and life as a community.“

Why Chumbak Is Worth Watching

Chumbak guarantees memorable characters, whether they are the unofficial fixers, eager advisors, unintentional mischief-makers, or charming gossip aficionados who transform the smallest daily moments into grand events.

Unlike many comedy series that focus on a single family, Chumbak explores the lives of multiple households living in the same neighbourhood. This allows the story to showcase different personalities, relationships, and situations while highlighting how neighbours become an important part of each other’s lives.

For fans of Sarabhai vs Sarabhai and Khichdi, this reunion of creators JD Majethia and Aatish Kapadia promises the same blend of clever writing, relatable situations, and heartwarming family dynamics that made those shows cultural phenomena.
