FIFA has drastically reduced ticket prices for the Club World Cup semi-final between Chelsea and Fluminense, cutting them from a hefty $473.90 to just $13.40. The match, set to be played at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, has now become one of the most affordable high-profile fixtures in recent memory—highlighting FIFA’s urgent response to poor attendance and growing fan dissatisfaction across the tournament.

FIFA Slashes Prices to Fill Seats at Chelsea vs Fluminense Clash

FIFA has dramatically slashed ticket prices for the highly anticipated Club World Cup semi-final between Chelsea and Fluminense, reducing them to just $13.40—a staggering drop from the previous price of $473.90. The match, set to take place at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, is part of an evolving ticket strategy aimed at salvaging attendance in a tournament plagued by empty seats.

This jaw-dropping 35-fold price cut comes just 72 hours before kickoff and is one of the most drastic pricing reversals in modern football tournament history. FIFA’s move, first reported by The Athletic, marks a significant attempt to breathe life into what should have been one of the most attended fixtures of the global tournament.

Why Did FIFA Cut Prices So Drastically?

The FIFA Club World Cup 2025, hosted across various U.S. cities, has struggled to draw crowds—with the exception of Real Madrid fixtures. In contrast, Wednesday’s semi-final between Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid still holds a much steeper entry price, starting at $199.60.

Earlier matches, including quarter-finals in Orlando (Fluminense vs Al Hilal) and Philadelphia (Chelsea vs Palmeiras), also saw price drops to as low as $11.15 to attract fans.

The U.S. remains a developing soccer market, competing for attention with the NFL, NBA, and MLB. By adjusting prices to be more fan-friendly, FIFA aims to create a better atmosphere and avoid the embarrassment of half-empty stadiums.

Sparse Crowds and Fan Frustration

The empty seats have been noticeable throughout the 63-game tournament, even as Real Madrid continues to draw massive crowds—over 76,000 fans witnessed their quarter-final win over Borussia Dortmund.

But not all fans are celebrating the discount. Some early buyers who paid nearly $500 per ticket feel betrayed. On the flip side, latecomers now get the golden opportunity to watch stars from Chelsea and Fluminense at an unbeatable price.

This unexpected U-turn from FIFA could set a new precedent in how football is marketed and priced in non-traditional markets like the United States.

Ticket Pricing Comparison: Then vs Now

Match	Location	Original Price	Discounted Price
Chelsea vs Fluminense	MetLife Stadium, NJ	$473.90	$13.40
PSG vs Real Madrid	New Jersey	$473.90	$199.60
Fluminense vs Al Hilal	Orlando	$300.00	$11.15
Chelsea vs Palmeiras	Philadelphia	$300.00	$11.15

What Does This Mean for the Tournament?

Market Learning: The move underlines the challenge of selling international football in a sports-saturated U.S. market.
Fan Win: Budget-conscious fans now get a rare chance to see elite clubs for the price of a movie ticket.
FIFA’s Gamble: By prioritizing accessibility, FIFA hopes to improve the energy in stadiums and make the tournament more appealing on TV.

What’s Next in the Club World Cup?

As Chelsea and Fluminense square off in this cut-price showdown, all eyes are on MetLife Stadium to see if reduced prices will lead to packed stands. The winner of this clash will move on to the final, where they’ll meet the victor between Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.
