Canada just made one of its biggest-ever moves to attract Indian talent. Canada has announced a $100 million scholarship fund for Indian students as part of a new Canada–India Talent and Innovation Strategy, aimed at strengthening cooperation in education and research between the two nations. The announcement was made by PM Mark Carney’s office on March 2, 2026.

Canada–India Talent Strategy: Key Details

Fully Funded Scholarships	Up to 200 students
University Partnerships	13 new MoUs signed
Hybrid Study Locations	3 new centres in India

What the $100M Actually Covers

The scholarships are expected to cover tuition fees as well as living and research expenses — making them truly fully funded for high-achieving Indian students across undergraduate, master’s, PhD, and postdoctoral programmes.

Each scholarship could be valued at around $500,000 over the programme duration, depending on the level of study and field chosen. For more on studying abroad opportunities, follow TechnoSports’ education coverage.

The Hybrid Campus Model Is the Real Game-Changer

Three hybrid study locations are being launched in India — an innovation campus through Dalhousie University in partnership with IIT Tirupati and IISER Tirupati, plus the University of Toronto Centre of Excellence and McGill University Centre of Excellence, both focused on AI research and development.

These hybrid campuses allow Indian students to begin coursework in India before relocating to Canada to complete their degrees — a major structural shift that lowers the barrier to accessing a Canadian education. The initiatives follow Canada’s largest-ever academic delegation to India, with more than 20 Canadian university presidents visiting in February 2026. Stay updated at TechnoSports.
