While JioHotstar was previously available in these three countries under the Hotstar name, this launch is far from a simple relabeling. The platform arrives as an entirely new app, carrying over the content library and product experience already established on JioHotstar’s India platform — complete with personalized recommendations, interactive features, and real-time engagement tools built around how audiences actually watch today.

Amit Malhotra, JioStar’s Head of International Business, framed the shift as a deliberate pivot: streaming has spent the last decade competing purely on catalogue size, and this launch is positioned as a bet that experience and personalization matter as much as content volume.

What’s In The Library

The international rollout leans heavily on JioHotstar’s biggest original hits and film titles. New originals debuting include Ali Baba Aur Chaalis Bhoot, Prince of Mollywood, Part Timers, and The Court, alongside an established library featuring Criminal Justice, Special Ops, Asur, Aarya, Heartbeat, and Kerala Crime Files. On the film side, subscribers get access to titles like Dhurandhar, Kesari Chapter 2, 12th Fail, Kill, Chhichhore, and Jab We Met.

Reality television gets a major push too — Bigg Boss returns across six languages, and for the first time, viewers in all three markets can cast live votes throughout each edition. Canada and the UK additionally get access to a 24/7 live feed, with Canadian audiences able to watch Bigg Boss Hindi a full week ahead of its television broadcast back home.

A Diaspora-First, Globally-Minded Strategy

JioHotstar has been explicit about its target audience: a platform “designed to resonate deeply with the South Asian diaspora while appealing to a broader global audience” curious about diverse stories and cultures. That balancing act shows up clearly in the content strategy — shows like Anupama and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai will stream in Singapore and Canada before their Indian TV broadcast, while UK audiences get select shows simultaneously with television.

Notably, IPL and other cricket rights are not part of this initial international package, suggesting sports content may follow in a later phase of the rollout.

Why This Matters

This marks JioStar’s first major international expansion under the JioHotstar brand, and it signals bigger global ambitions for the Disney-backed platform beyond its dominant position in the Indian market.
