The newly launched Snapdragon 720G, 662 & 460 SoCs become the first ones to support ISRO’s NavIC GPS constellation with support for Wi-Fi 6 and improved AI capabilities

Qualcomm has made its formal announcement of its new 4G mobile SoCs targetted for budget devices. The three SoCs include the Snapdragon 720G, Snapdragon 662, and the Snapdragon 460 which supports the new ISRO’s NavIC GPS satellite constellation

These SoCs also offer fast 4G speeds, improved wireless connectivity featuring the new Wi-Fi 6 along with Bluetooth 5.1. They also support Qualcomm FastConnect 6 along with L1 and L5 dual-frequency GNSS.

Last year we saw the Snapdragon 730 and 730G for mid-ranged devices and last month Qualcomm also announced the newer 7nm based Snapdragon 765 & 765G and now we have the new Snapdragon 720G which will be the replacement for the budget devices which previously used the Snapdragon 712 or 710 or 675.

The Snapdragon720G includes the Kryo 465 CPU along with two Cortex A76 cores with up to 2.3GHz and six Cortex A55 cores at up to 1.8GHz and there’s support for Adreno 618 GPU for gaming as well. The SoC even supports HDR content viewing and high-quality video streaming.

Being a gaming-centric SoC, the new 720G features select Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Gaming features and supports HDR gaming and Qualcomm aptX Adaptive. The Spectra 350L ISP supports a maximum resolution of up to 192 MP and 4K video recording support along with 5th generation AI Engine.

The integrated Snapdragon X15 LTE modem supports for 3-carrier aggregation, 4×4 MIMO on two carriers, and 256-QAM modulation for download speed up to 800Mbps.

On the connectivity front, we have the support for Qualcomm Hexagon Tensor Accelerator, FastConnect 6200 Wi-Fi enhancements with WPA3 and Wi-Fi 6 8×8 multi-user MIMO. Also, the SoC supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ technology to support fast charging and USB-PD sources.

Qualcomm’s 6-series SoC got a healthy upgrade in the form of Snapdragon 662 and the SoC features the Spectra 340T ISP that supports triple cameras, HEIF image capture and up to 48-megapixel primary sensor. The chip also supports Qualcomm Charge 3.0 along with support for Dual Charge.

The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 SoC has Hexagon 683 support and is powered by the Kryo 260 CPU with four cores of Cortex A73 with up to 2GHz and four cores of Cortex A53 clocked at up to 1.8GHz, coupled with the Adreno 610 GPU.

Also, it features 3rd generation AI Engine with Hexagon Vector Extensions (HVX) enabling support for AI-based night photography, face and voice ID, and use of avatars as well. The Snapdragon 662 supports the Snapdragon X11 LTE mode with 2-CA, 2×2 MIMO, 256-QAM modulation, and download speeds up to 390 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 150Mbps.

The low-budget oriented Snapdragon 450 has been updated to the new Snapdragon 460 and Qualcomm says the SoC offers 70% and 60% improved performance in CPU and GPU front respectively. The SoC even supports Hexagon 683 with Qualcomm Hexagon Vector eXtensions (HVX) and hardware-accelerated TensorFlow Lite for supporting newer user experiences.

Under the hood, the new Snapdragon 460 SoC is equipped with Kryo 240 CPU with dedicated performance cores, paired with Adreno 610 GPU. There is also support for Quick Charge 3.0 along with Dual Charge support. The same integrated Snapdragon X11 LTE modem supports download speeds of up to 390Mbps and upload speeds of up to 150Mbps.

For the first time, we get some AI features in this 4-series SoC as well featuring the 3rd generation Qualcomm AI Engine that includes HVX and the Spectra 340 ISP that supports triple rear cameras, along with 25-megapixel primary sensor. 

Talking about the availability of these chips, the Snapdragon 720G will be available in Q1 2020 and Xiaomi will be the first to launch a Snapdragon a 720G-powered smartphone and Realme will too launch its smartphone as well. The devices powered by Snapdragon 662 and 460 will be seen towards the end of this year.

At the Qualcomm event, we saw representatives from Realme, Xiaomi and OnePlus as well so we can expect devices from these manufacturers in the near future as well.

Even though Qualcomm is leveraging its 5G capabilities worldwide but in a 5G-less country like India, it is focusing to improve its 4G based chipsets and provide better functionalities to a wider audience. Hopefully, with these new SoCs, we will be getting better budget smartphones in the coming days.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite is launched in India today. The device came with a price tag of Rs.33,999 including an Rs.5,000 exchange offer and without exchange the original price of the device is Rs.38,999.

A cheaper alternative of the Galaxy Note10 flagship comes with a year-old Exynos 9810 chipset which is available at almost $547. In comparison, the small Galaxy Note10 starts from INR69,999, or around $980, while the Plus version is INR10,000/$140 more expensive. Both the devices are much expensive compared to the Lite version. We guessed that the Lite version will be cheaper, which it is but the price difference from its nearest sibling is of INR31,000.

The Galaxy Note 10 Lite‘s triple rear camera setup has a 12MP main camera with Dual Pixel autofocus, an f/1.7 lens, and OIS. It is assisted by a 12MP wide-angle camera with an f/2.2 aperture and a 12MP telephoto lens with an f/2.4 aperture and OIS for stabilization. There is also a 32MP camera with an f/2.2 aperture to take care of selfies and video calls.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite is priced in India at Rs. 38,999 for the 6GB + 128GB model, and Rs. 40,999 for the 8GB + 128GB model. The Samsung phone will be available in Aura Glow, Aura Black, and Aura Red colour options. The pre-bookings open today at 2 pm. It will go on sale via all major online and offline retailers starting February 3.

Barcelona plan to replace injured Suarez with Aubameyang

Barcelona’s campaign were dealt with a major blow following the injury of their star striker Luis Suarez. Suarez was injured while playing against Levante and that injury was far worse than expected.

Suarez has undergone knee surgery and he will miss around four months of football, which will definitely weaken Barcelona’s claim of winning the LaLiga and the Champions League.

Barcelona released a statement on their official website: “The first-team player, Luis Suárez, has been operated on this Sunday by Dr. Ramon Cugat, who used keyhole surgery to resolve an injury to the external meniscus of the right knee by performing a suture. The Uruguayan striker will be out for approximately four months.”

After Lionel Messi, Suarez is the main man of the Barcelona team. He has participated in a total of 23 games this season, in which he has scored 14 goals: 11 in the league and three in the Champions League. In addition, he has the most assists in LaLiga in this season with a total of 7.

Suarez will surely be missed by Barcelona but it’s now time for Griezmann to prove his worth and replace Suarez. He is having a decent debut season, scoring 7 goals in 18 league appearances. But he needs to do better to replace the veteran striker.

Barcelona board are also looking at all the other possible players to replace Suarez. The man who leads the list is Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Aubameyang is one of the best Premier League strikers. The 30-year-old has scored an impressive 57 goals in 91 Arsenal appearances since his move from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018.

The Gabon international has bagged 16 goals in 26 appearances in the Premier League and Europa League this season for the Gunners. He has also been recently given the responsibility of captaining the side.

Aubameyang is 30 and may consider this his last opportunity to play for one of the giants of European football. His contract expires in June 2021 so it may also leave Arsenal with a decision to make, whether that be now or at the end of the current season.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher said on the Sky Sports Christmas Transfer show: “You look at the upfront and the age of Aubameyang, he’s got a year to go. I wouldn’t be surprised if they cashed in on Aubameyang if somebody offered them big money.
That’s even though he’s one of the top strikers in the Premier League. They do still have Lacazette there also but it’s a big job at Arsenal.”

Barcelona are said to open negotiations with Arsenal in the next few days. Aubameyang’s efficiency in front of goal and his versatility are the things that are attracting Barcelona to make their move.

Bayern Munich are interested in signing Real Madrid right-back Alvaro Odriozola

Alvaro Odriozola signed for Real Madrid from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2018 for a reported fee of €30m. But the right-back has been unable to challenge veteran Carvajal for a place in the starting XI.

He has only played just 434 minutes of football this season. So, he is now keen to move away from Real Madrid temporarily in order to gain some match time.

German champions Bayern Munich are looking to sign a new defensive player. According to a report from SportBild on Tuesday, Odriozola has emerged as a surprise candidate for the Bavarians.

Bayern Munich can prove to be the perfect destination for Odriozola to flourish again. The 24-year old has all the talents and qualities for becoming a top-class player. He just needs some first-team minutes, which is hard for him to get at Real Madrid. Dani Carvajal is too good a player to be displaced by him.

Another report from Marca states that the Spain international did not train with Madrid on Tuesday as he is close to leaving the Spanish capital on loan.

Zidane did not reveal which clubs are interested in signing Odriozola, but he confirmed the full-back could leave Madrid this month.

Zidane said: “He has an option to go and play elsewhere but nothing is official yet, we’re going to wait and see. The option of Alvaro going is a possibility, it’s not official.
I’m not going to get rid of one to sign someone else. We’ve got a big squad and an option could be [bringing back] Vallejo [Jesus Vallejo is currently on loan at Premier League club Wolves] but we don’t know yet.”

Odriozola, whose contract with Real Madrid runs until 2024 will definitely leave on loan, if not to Bayern Munich then to Sevilla who is also interested in the right-back. But as things stand, for now, he is just a medical check away from joining the Bavarians.

NVIDIA to bring GeForce MX330 & GeForce MX350 Pascal GPUs

It’s been a year since NVIDIA updated their mobile GPUs and this year too they will be updating them to GeForce MX330 and GeForce MX350. But instead of switching to the newer Turing architecture or making 7nm GPUs, NVIDIA is trusting on its older 14nm Pascal architecture.

Both the GeForce MX330 and MX350s were teased at the CES 2020, and now we have a new driver release which has unveiled their hardware IDs. This GeForce MX mobile graphics series will almost complete three years now.

According to a post on LaptopVideo2Go, the GeForce MX330 carries the ID of “1D16” and the “1D” outing shows its based on Pascal GP108 GPU. On the other hand, the driver refers to the GeForce MX350 as the “1C94”, which means that NVIDIA is not basing it on the GP108 GPU architecture.

Hence, the new GeForce MX350 is probably a refreshed version of the MX250 which inturn is a refresh of the MX150 itself. The “1C” here indicates that the upcoming NVIDIA MX350 could either be based on GP106 or GP107 GPU.

However, the “94” suffix followed by “1C92”, which is also known as NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Max-Q proves it be more likely based out of GP107 GPU rather than a GP106. Overall, in spite of its upcoming 7nm Ampere GPUs, the mobile GPUs for thin and light notebooks will another refresh of its older Pascal architecture.

This might reduce the costs and for thin and light laptops the Pascal architecture might still be a great option for those who need a modest form of discrete graphics on their thin and light notebooks. Both of the GPU models could have 10 W and 25 W TDP respectively and can get announced by NVIDIA in February 2020.

According to the reports POCO is working on three different smartphones as it is going to debut after almost two years as an independent brand. When POCO was a sub-brand of Xiaomi it launched its first-ever smartphone POCO F1 and now it is working on the POCO F2. The brand is most probably going to launch three different models of the POCO F2. The models are likely to be named as POCO F2 Lite, POCO F2, and POCO F2 Pro. Though the source from which all the details have been gathered is still not the most trustworthy, we can guess that the device can look more or less the same as the images leaked.

POCO F2 Lite images

YouTube channel named RevAtlas received an email about the Pocophone F2 Lite with three photos attached along with some basic specs. The phone will allegedly be powered by a Snapdragon 765G chipset with 6GB of RAM, 5,000mAh battery and it will feature a high res camera, though no further details were given about it.

Anyway, according to the email, POCO is set to unveil three new devices this year. They will be based on Mi models (the K30 family, by the looks of it). It’s not clear if the third model in the family will be a flagship (Xiaomi probably has a Snapdragon 865-based phone in the works).

Last year there were rumors that Xiaomi will rebrand the Redmi K20 as the “Pocophone F2” in some markets, though that didn’t come to pass. The Redmi K20 does go under “Mi 9T” in some regions, though. All we’re saying is, don’t treat these leaks as gospel.

Real Madrid have finally signed Reinier Jesus from Flamengo

Real Madrid were interested in signing Flamengo midfielder Reinier Jesus for a long time. The Spanish giants have been tracking the player’s progress at Flamengo since 2016.

Reinier Jesus turned 18th on 19th January and Real Madrid didn’t make any delay to trigger his release clause of around €30-35 million. They have signed him on a six-year deal. He will join Real Madrid immediately and will spend the rest of the season adapting and playing for Raul’s Castilla side.

The 18-year-old attacking midfielder is widely regarded as one of the finest young talents to emerge from Brazil over the course of the last decade. He is one of the sought after talents in Europe with the likes of Manchester City, Juventus, Barcelona, Roma, Milan, Arsenal, and Everton among others.

The starlet possesses a whole range of attacking gifts, combining perfect touch, technique, vision, ability to split opposing defences at will and crucially, a keen eye for goal. He has even been described as a cross between Zinedine Zidane and Kaka by some in Brazil.

Reinier won the Copa Libertadores with Flamengo. He made 15 appearances this season – 8 from the start and 6 as a substitute, scoring 6 goals and assisting another 2.

One of the key factors in his desire to put on the Madrid shirt is his eagerness to share the dressing room with Vinicius Junior, who left Flamengo for the Bernabeu in the summer of 2018. He said earlier: “He’s [Vinicius] a top player and anyone would like to play alongside him.”

Reinier Jesus will now join the likes of other Brazilian talents present at Real Madrid – Marcelo, Casemiro, Vinicius Jr, Eder Militao and Rodrygo. During his time at Flamengo, he has played as a center attacking midfielder, a left-winger, and as a striker. So he can prove to be a very versatile player for Zidane.

Finally, the match which every Blaugrana fan was eagerly waited for is now over, Barcelona has won over Granada by 1-0 but yes we witnessed a new team under coach Quique Setién. The team at the Camp Nou played aggressively against the visitors maintaining the possession and following the coach’s possession football inspired by Johan Cruyff.

Also, the young Rique Puig played quite well after being substituted in the latter half of the game and was an important part in the only goal. Messi played up front along with Griezmann who was formally assigned the left-wing position but switched positions rapidly to confuse the opponents.

Liverpool are still unbeaten this season as they won 2-0 against Manchester United on Sunday at Anfield. Van Dijk scored a towering header in the 14th minute before Salah scored the all-important second goal in the stoppage time.

Liverpool are now 16 points clear with 16 games to go. They have won 91 points from the last 93 available. They have also not suffered a single league defeat in the last 12 months.

Listening to Anfield on Sunday, the party has already started. “We’re going to win the league,” the fans were singing for the first time this season. They’re probably right. Jurgen Klopp won’t say the same. But everyone knows.

Salah’s stoppage-time goal was brilliant. Alisson started the move with a perfect long-ball assist. Salah was too quick for Daniel James. He held off James and kept his composure to score past De Gea and send Liverpool comfortably 16 points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Salah joked that Liverpool won because he was back from injury. He told Sky Sports: “As you can see today I get back from the injury so we won the game, so I’m very happy for the team now. We enjoy the moment and hopefully, we finish like that. I got a pass from Alisson, no one else could get me the ball, but I’m very happy for the result, that’s the most important thing.

“I think we just need to focus on each game, we don’t have to think now we’ve won the Premier League. We have to keep it game by game, that’s the only way we can win the Premier League. We struggled last season at the same time, so we have to keep calm and focus on each game.”

Liverpool manager Klopp said: “It was a really good game, one of the best derbies we have played for sure. Very dominant in most periods of the game. I didn’t like too much in the first half, the last five or seven minutes. Nothing happened really, just we weren’t as dominant as before. And obviously the last 10-15, maybe, of the game. Okay, [it was] an exception.”

“The start to the second half was absolutely brutal. We jumped in and had three, four chances at least. Didn’t score and then it’s how it always is… the opponent has the chance to come back. We had to defend and the organisation was okay. We defended with a lot of passion, a big heart and stuff like this. Carried as well by the atmosphere, which was great.”

“And then the last situation of the game – Alisson Becker, what an assist. Mo Salah, what a goal. There was a sprint duel of two really quick boys and Mo used his massive experience. A big relief in that moment.”

Liverpool fans were singing “We’re going to win the league,” and Klopp welcomed the sense of excitement. He told Sky Sports:” [The fans] can sing that, but they sang that a couple of times in the past, I think. There’s absolutely no problem. Everybody should celebrate a situation – apart from us.”

“We have no problem with that. There’s nothing changed. We have exactly the same situation plus three points, which is great, wonderful, unbelievable. But nothing else has changed. I’ll tell you immediately the moment it feels different. So far, it feels exactly the same always.”

Finally, in 2020, the youth-centric brand Realme is back with its much-speculated Realme UI based on the latest Android 10. It is the company’s first own UI after being dependent on Oppo’s ColorOS since it got established.

This is the OEM’s first in-house Android skin with a completely revamped interface along with many new features including one-handed operation and cross-OEM file-sharing. The interface will be much cleaner and lighter than its origin brand’s latest ColorOS 7.

For Realme the major breakthrough device in 2019 would be obviously the Realme 3 Pro which was sold in millions in India alone. This was the first device from the brand with Snapdragon 710, VOOC flash charge that actually gave stiff competition to Redmi Note 7 Pro.

It won’t be surprising to know that Realme has got more Realme 3 Pro users than any smartphone in the “Pro” series. So, as they announced the Rollout schedule in 2020, they are pushing the latest update abbreviated as RMX1851EX_11_C.01 to the Realme 3 Pro first.

  • Realme XT and Realme 3 Pro – January 2020

  • Realme 5, 5s, and 5i – May 2020
  • Realme C2 – Q3 2020

The Realme UI features a revamped icon set and does implement an updated quantum animation engine for smoother transitions as well as visuals. There are many new features like Focus Mode, Smart Gestures, native Dark Mode, Dual Earphone Connection, Personal Information Protection, and more.

The Personal Information Protection secures you from those apps that request personal information with blank data. Dual Earphone Connection is a great feature that enables both Bluetooth as well as wired headphones at the same time, a unique way to share your listening with your partner. 

There are tons of new features which you can see in the changelog at the Realme community. Realme has stated that its roll-out will eventually start slowly to a limited pool of “random users” at first, to help monitor it for critical bugs and then most probably will be pushed to more users in the coming days.
