To everyone’s surprise, a new report from Bloomberg has stirred everyone in the industry, yes, you heard it right – Nvidia is pursuing to buy the UK based chip design company Arm Ltd., owned by SoftBank Group Corp.
Obviously this is not official but sources of Bloomberg said Nvidia could possibly make an approach in recent weeks about a potential deal for Arm Ltd. This speculation comes in the middle of the fact that SoftBank to sell part or all of its stake in Arm via a private deal or public stock listing, the news already reported this month.
The graphics giant Nvidia seems interested in Arm, which is still unclear if they will totally pursue to buy the chip design company, but SoftBank may still opt to pursue a listing. If this deal somehow takes place then this could possibly become the biggest-ever acquisition in the chip industry.
Arm is currently owned by SoftBank and its $100 billion Vision Fund, it was bought by the Japanese group at the time when it was the U.K.’s largest listed technology company, for about $32 billion in 2016. Nvidia has grown massive in the last few years, thanks to its continuous growth in the gaming industry and AI & cloud, it has generated a lot of revenue with a market value of about $254 billion.
Shares of Nvidia have risen almost eightfold over the same period and it has even surpassed the likes of Intel in terms of market value earlier this month. So, buying a company like ARM is not a big deal for the graphics giant which can benefit either way.
On the other hand, Softbank is trying to sell its stakes due to the COVID-19 pandemic which has led to a huge economic disruption across the globe so that it can replenish its cash reserves. ARM was sold to Softbank so that none of the chip design companies could be biased as it has a lot of clients in the silicon market like Huawei, Apple, MediaTek, Qualcomm, Samsung, and a lot more.
ARM’s instructions set has become a standard for any kind of chip manufacturing, the tech behind 2 billion custom processors by Apple shipped in various iPhones and other Apple devices. Also, this year Apple is trying to makes its own Arm-based silicon to power Macs, so ARM is an important partner for the Cupertino giant.
Even some company buys ARM but as the company sells semiconductor designs and instruction sets to its potential clients, it would trigger regulatory scrutiny. It is because every client out there would be demanding assurance from the new owner provide equal access to ARM’s instruction set, which is why SoftBank, a neutral company is an ideal owner, but now speculations surrounding Nvidia, this should pose a danger to a lot of ARM’s current clients.

It’s just been a day that AMD has launched its Zen 2 based Renoir APUs and the Ryzen PRO 4000 desktop processors, now there’s a leak that shows some insane memory overclock with the new 8-core AMD Ryzen PRO 7 4750G. We previously have seen these Renoir APUs get overclocked on the new B550 motherboards so getting this level is very much expected.
Higher clock speeds and higher RAM frequency will obviously help these Renoir APUs perform well both on the CPU and GPU front. The Taiwanese overclockers, TSAIK and Bianbao, have pushed the new Ryzen PRO 7 4750G to insane speeds both on the processor and memory front with LN2 overclocking on ASUS’s and MSI’s B550 motherboards.
via Wccftech
The new AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 4750G is almost the same as the other flagship Renoir desktop APU 8-core and 16 thread. It comes with 4 MB of L2 and 8 MB of L3 cache for a total of 12 MB cache. The APU features a base clock speed of 3.60 GHz and a boost clock speed of 4.45 GHz. The APU operates with a 65W TDP and for integrated graphics, there’s the 7nm Vega GPU which comes with 8 CUs to form 512 cores and clocked at 2100 MHz.
The first result came in the form of CPU overclock which has been achieved by TSAIK. The APU was overclocked to a massive 5.8 GHz (5812.9 MHz) on an MSI MPG B550 Gaming Carbon motherboard. This represents almost 61.47% boost over the base frequency of the chip and it can only be achieved with the use of liquid nitrogen cooling.
via Wccftech
The second overclock came through Bianbao who has set another record of the fastest memory overclocking speed on the AMD AM4 platform. So, the AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 4750G was used in the test with LN2 cooling and it CPU was clocked down to just 2.5 GHz at 1.232V, however, the memory was pushed to unimaginable DDR4-6234 MHz clock speed (3117.40 MHz).
The timings of the RAM were configured to 24-27-27-58-127-1T, the DIMMs used are the Crucial Ballistix DDR4-2666 (8 GB x 2) kit. This record memory overclock was possible on an ASUS ROG STRIX B550-I Gaming motherboard. Seeing such insane overclock speeds and experiments, these new Ryzen 4000 APUs is quite promising and the B550 motherboards will be a good option for most overclock enthusiasts out there, no doubts.
One of Apple’s largest iPhone contractor has come to the spotlight, yet again, as new reports from Digitimes say that Foxconn plans to invest on chip development plant in China.
The report says the Taiwan based contractor will be backed by China’s state-backed Rongkong Group to develop this advanced semiconductor assembly and test plant in Qingdao, northeast China. Foxconn plans to be investing a total of CNY60 billion (US$8.6 billion) in the project.
Foxconn is a major iPhone producer in China and so making a chip development plant in the country is no brainer as it will help its own production. However, it is interesting to see the Taiwan based company take such a huge amidst the global tension between China and other countries.
So, it is speculated that Foxconn’s new Qingdao plant will be dedicated to providing advanced packaging technologies, such as fan-out, and wafer-level bonding and stacking, for chip solutions for use in 5G and AI-related device applications, sources indicated.
The plant will is slated to be ready for production as fast as 2021 and will eventually scale up its output to commercial levels by 2025. This will be Foxconn’s new advanced backend plant in Qingdao and is supposed to be designed for a monthly capacity of 30,000 12-inch wafers. This move by the Taiwan based company is not new as they started to set up a semiconductor subgroup in 2017 itself.
So, this new Qingdao plant is believed to be part of Foxconn’s efforts to strengthen itself in the semiconductor field. This is indeed the hottest business if you can provide advanced technologies, like TSMC, who is growing at an astronomical scale each year.
Foxconn is trying to expand for the past two years, as they struck deals with China’s local governments in Zhuhai, Jinan and Nanjing regarding its participation in the local chipmaking sectors. China is a major place for manufacturing smartphones and is likely to grow over time so it makes sense for Foxconn to invest in chip manufacturing.
You all aware of the 59 Chinese app ban in India that is imposed at the end of June. The sad thing is CamScanner is also in the list, though it had data security issues but was one of the most officially used applications. It not only could scan any documents perfectly but also save that in various formats. Besides all kinds of share options were also there. To fulfill this loss, students of IIT-Delhi come up with their alternative app named DocStack.
It’s good for scanning documents and organizing them. As per the developers, “It not only lets users create high-quality scans on the go, but the universal search feature lets you find them easily when you need them the most”. Currently, it is available only for iOS platform but the developers are working on the Android version and hoping to launch that soon.
DocStack lets you store your documents conviniently in a single pmace and find them in a mtter of seconds when you need them. Download for free from the App Store today!https://t.co/TChhc2BN2Ypic.twitter.com/TMYKgNdc1R
Apart from scanning any document, through DocStack, you can also directly import files or images from your device’s files app. Cloud storing and sharing via AirDrop facility are also available in the application.
The developers revealed that this app is not developed using Flutter, they used XCode that makes the port from iOS to Android handy. DocStack is now available on the app store and it’s totally free. If you are an iOS user make sure to try it once.
Realme’s Weibo account had shared this poster in its official Weibo account which hints a camera out of a capsule. The Google Lens machine translation helps us to understand the translated texts which decode to “Self-pill screen” and “Pill screen”. This is something new we have come across from this brand. We know Realme is going to participate in the IFA 2020 for the first time. This makes sense as the company will try to showcase its new technology and innovation at that platform in the form of a new smartphone series.

This image is recently shared by Realme Weibo and this shows the rear quad-camera setup of the new series. The cameras will be housed in a rectangular layout with three big cameras and one small camera with a LED flashlight as illustrated in the image. The camera will be AI-enabled.
The name of the new series has not been decided and revealed by the company. We do expect that teasers to fill us in on the key specs of the smartphone in the coming times. But Realme’s Chinese CMO Xu Qi Chase has posted a very ordinary image on his Weibo account asking his followers to guess the name of the new series and we will be right back with our speculations on the name of the new series and some other leaks also.

The image of the phone on the right is a new Realme device and might be one of the Realme V series. Though we are not sure about it and from the rear camera layout, we can be sure that it is the same type of layout as mentioned in the account previously with an illustration. There will be a “DARE TO LEAP” text imprinted on the backside of this smartphone from the upcoming series. It looks pretty cool and the colour of this phone seems to be something near slate grey and can have a gradient finish as well.
