Addressing Real Madrid’s consecutive shock defeats

0

Real Madrid is proudly heralded as the biggest club in the world by many world-class players. In the same vein, Madridistas are very conscious of the reputation of the club, and a loss at any level is deemed unacceptable for Los Blancos.

The recent matches have seen Zinedine Zidane’s side coping with a dip in form, with shocking home defeats to Cadiz (0-1) and now, Shakhtar Donetsk (2-3) in back-to-back fixtures.

Madrid were without Dani Carvajal at right-back and were also without captain Sergio Ramos. The centre-back endured a knee injury in the loss against Cadiz and was ruled out of the Champions League match.Β

On the other hand, Shakhtar were without 13 players due to positive COVID-19 tests and still managed to get the better of the hosts.

From a tactical perspective, Shakhtar absolutely slaughtered Real Madrid on the counter-attack. The hosts tended to lose the ball high up the pitch, and the Ukrainian club was clinical in transition, looking to score from every chance they got.Β

Eder Militao and Raphael Varane had a difficult night, as the Shakhtar forwards looked to get the better of them on almost every transition.

While Zinedine Zidane has claimed responsibility for the loss in his post-match press conference, the pressure is slowly building on the French manager.Β

Considering the ruthless nature of the Real Madrid fans, a loss in El Clasico could be followed by calls for the sacking of Zidane.

From a neutral point of view, a dip in form is natural for any team in the world and Madrid are no exception. Relieving Zidane of his duties as a manager in the middle of the season can only make things get worse for the club, and it is important that the coach that once led them to a hat-trick of Champions League titles be treated with more respect and be given time to work on the performances of the squad.Β

Juventus trying everything to get Ronaldo available for Barcelona clash

The most exciting part about the Champions League so far has been the Juventus vs Barcelona draw in the group stage. The Italian Champions face the Blaugrana not once, but twice in the group stage of the Champions League.

Fans all across the world are heavily anticipating the clash between two of the biggest superstars of this generation, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, for the first time since the former’s departure to Italy.

However, Ronaldo’s positive coronavirus test cast doubts over whether the match would actually feature the two legends colliding once more.

As per Sport, Juventus are confident that Ronaldo has recovered from the virus and are further claiming that the star forward does not show any symptoms of the virus either. Consequently, the Italian club have submitted the required paperwork to UEFA to ensure that their biggest player is available for selection when they face Barcelona next week.

A response regarding the issue is awaited from the governing body.

The Portuguese forward has been in quarantine since his test returned positive. The stipulated time has now passed and it looks like the only thing keeping the 35-year-old from playing the match is a negative PCR test that ensures that Ronaldo is completely fit and ready to compete.

Ronaldo has been absent from the Juventus squad for the last few games and was also unavailable for the Champions League opener against Dynamo Kiev. Despite the absence of their star forward, the Old Lady managed to win 2-0 away from home.Β

Juventus take on Hellas Verona in Serie A over the weekend and will play host to Barcelona on the 28th of October in the Champions League.Β

Georgio Chiellini is already expected to miss both matches due to an injury that caused him to be replaced 19 minutes into the Kiev match. The absence of another one of their star players could spell trouble for the Serie A champions, especially given the form that Barcelona have shown in the last few games.

Have Leeds Secured the Services of the Next Ronaldinho?

0

When reports emerged that Raphinha would be joining Leeds United after a last-minute deal at the end of the transfer window, Rennes fans were absolutely seething. They took to Twitter to express their utter dismay in losing a player who looked like he was going to become a future superstar at the Ligue 1 club. The Brazilian has been a long-term target of United manager Marcelo Bielsa and, in clinching this deal, the Argentine may have a diamond that he can polish into a world-beater.

Raphinha Deal Sealed at Last Minute

Leeds fans who had been following the club’s activity in the transfer market and taking note of all the rumours were shocked when news broke that the West YorkshireΒ outfit were singing Raphinha from Rennes. There had been absolutely no paper talk about the deal until Victor Orta travelled to the French outfit to cut a deal in the dying stages of the international transfer window. Up to that point, Leeds had been heavily linked with the Udinese playmaker Rodrigo De Paul, but this deal never came to fruition.

Raphinha had been on Bielsa’s transfer shortlist from day one as a player he would like to sign, but the manager, along with the hierarchy at the club, believed that the Brazilian was off-limits with Rennes unwilling to sell. However, apparently, it has always been Raphinha’s dream to compete in the English top-flight and it seems that he may have pushed for the move.

With the addition of Raphinha and the Spanish striker Rodrigo Moreno, along with defensive recruitments in Robin Koch and Diego Llorente, Leeds will be a strong force in the Premier League this season. It’s no surprise, then, that Royal Panda has listed the newly-promoted side as its ninth-favourite club to win the division this term. TheyΒ can be found at odds of 101.00 there, which could represent a lucrative punt for bettors who want to take a chance.

Raphinha Adds Strength on the Flanks But May Also be Repurposed

Raphinha will naturally bring competition to Helder Costa and Jack Harrison on the flanks, but with these players performing well so far it may be hard for the new boy to break into the first XI in his favoured position. There is a chance that Bielsa may train his new charge for a positional change, however. The Argentine tactician has been known to frequently move players to get the best out of them. The most notable instance of this was when he transformed Kalvin Phillips from a box-to-box midfielder into one ofΒ the standout holding midfielders in the country.

It is worth remembering that when Bielsa came in, Pablo Hernandez was more of a natural wide man. However, the Spaniard has arguably had his best games under El Loco in a more central role where he can act as the primary playmaker. With Raphinha’s skillset and game-changing ability, there is a chance that he could be groomed into this role as the successor to the 35-year-old.

Why Has he Been Compared to Ronaldinho?

Raphinha was born and raised in Porto Alegre in Brazil, which is the same city that legendary footballer Ronaldinho grew up in. Naturally, this has led to speculation that the 23-year-old could follow in the footsteps of one of his greatest ever countrymen.

When the 97-time Brazil international was the same age, however, he was already world-renowned and had just signed for Barcelona. Still, under the tutelage of Bielsa, anything is possible, and Raphinha may yet have the chance to replicate the success of his hero.

It remains to be seen what kind of impact Raphinha will have at Leeds. He showed glimmers of brilliance at Rennes, though, and if he can get fit enough for Bielsa to work his magic then he could become world-class.

Vinicius Jr sets record for the fastest goal in the Champions League

The Champions League is the most-watched football event in the entire year for a very good reason. Shakhtar Donetsk managed to beat the 13-time Champions League winners Real Madrid at the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium with the scoreline reading 2-3 in favour of the visitors.Β

Madrid were 3-0 down at half time, with goals from Tete and Manor Solomon along with a Raphael Varane own goal.

Vinicius Vinicius Jr sets record for the fastest goal in the Champions League

Luka Jovic gave way in the 59th minute for Vinicius Jr to make an impact, and that is exactly what he did.

Running up to take his position on the field, the Brazilian caught Shakhtar captain Marlos being absent-minded in possession right outside the penalty box.

Vinicius 1 Vinicius Jr sets record for the fastest goal in the Champions League

The newly introduced player went on to beat the keeper and make it 2-3, giving Madrid a fighting chance with 30 minutes left on the clock.

Vinicius scored with his second touch of the ball, and it only took him 15 seconds to get onto the scoresheet.

This is a brand-new record for the Champions League, as Vinicius has set the record for the fastest goal scored in the Champions League by a substitute since Opta started managing stats in the 2006-07 season.Β

The newly made record puts Vinicius in the conversation for some of the best super subs in the game, players who didn’t always make it to the starting line-up but knew how to make a difference from the bench.Β

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Olivier Giroud and Henrik Larsson are some of the most influential super subs and have repeatedly managed to make their mark on the pitch from the bench.Β

Zidane is spoilt for options on the wings, with the likes of Marco Asensio, Rodrygo and Eden Hazard competing for a starting berth on the flanks. His influence from the bench and his consistent attacking plays ever since he came on are a great claim for a place in the starting 11.Β

Champions League 2020-21: Matchday 1 review

0

With the first set of fixtures having played, matchday 1 of the 20/21 edition of the Champions League has driven home the point that football is one of the most unpredictable sports in the world.

Here’s what went down on Tuesday and Wednesday:

Lazio 3-1 Borussia Dortmund

A match that promised to be a collision of two of the underdogs in the Champions League tilted in the favour of the Italian club in the first half itself.

Dortmund were down 2-0 at half-time, and their performances at the back have been concerning for quite some time now. Despite having the likes of Sancho, Haaland and Reus leading the attack, the visitors only managed to pull one back in the second half.

Immobile opened the scoring 6 minutes in, and assisted Jean Akpa for the last goal of the match to make it 3-1.

Paris Saint-Germain 1-2 Manchester United

Bruno Fernandes managed to score another penalty for United 23 minutes in to give the visitors the lead. After a Martial own goal levelled things up ten minutes after half time, it took the dying stages of the match for Marcus Rashford to score the winner for United.Β

Despite the recent defensive problems that Manchester United have faced, the victory away was a significant step up as they managed to neutralise the menacing front-three of Neymar, Mbappe and former player Di Maria.

Real Madrid 2-3 Shakhtar Donetsk

932848 rm cl Champions League 2020-21: Matchday 1 review

Arguably the most shocking result from matchday 1, the Ukrainian side managed to put 3 past the 13-time Champions League winners in the first half itself. Shakhtar were blindingly fast and precise in their counter-attacks, which gave the Madrid defence some real headaches.Β

Modric’s screamer from 25-yards out managed to pull Real back into the competition. Vinicius Jr.’s goal with his very first touch gave Los Blancos hope to equalise at the very least.

But alas, it was heartbreak for the Madridistas as a Fede Valverde goal in the dying stages of injury time was ruled out for Vinicius obstructing the vision of the goalkeeper.

Bayern Munich 4-0 Atletico Madrid

The reigning champions started their European title defence by doing what they do best, scoring goals.Β

In a match that promised a heavyweight collision between one of the best attacking and defensive sides in Europe proved to be a one-horse race as the German giants put 4 past the Rojiblancos.Β

Kingsley Coman scored two and assisted one, continuing his Champions League heroics from last season.

Inter 2-2 Borussia MΓΆnchengladbach

115024866 hi063948404 Champions League 2020-21: Matchday 1 review

The first half ended level for both teams involved, with neither managing to open the scoring. Shortly after half time, Romelu Lukaku gave Inter the lead from close range. However, it was short-lived as Gladbach pulled one back from the penalty spot shortly after.Β

The last minutes of regulation time saw the Germans take the lead and let it go only five minutes later for Lukaku to save the day for Conte’s team again.

Other Results

  • Zenit 1-2 Club Brugge
  • Dynamo Kyiv 0-2 Juventus
  • Chelsea 0-0 Sevilla

FC Barcelona dressing room breaks down following split in wage reduction

0

Covid-19 pandemic has become a reason for the economical crisis all over the world. Many football clubs are facing a problem in this regard. Some top clubs like Barcelona are also on that list as well.

According to reports of Marca, FC Barcelona is in some financial crisis which makes its board take some major steps. According to reports FC Barcelona has decided to pay cut all of its employees by 30%. It may become 25% later as well.

The reports show that the debt of the club has increased and almost doubled this year than the last year. The debt was about €217 million last year. It has become €488 million this season.

Preparations begin for the upcoming season as Barcelona replaces turf at the Camp Nou

Club’s wage bill is also reduced this year. Club’s first-team squad has been reduced down this year, with a reported €80m off the wage bill. But that is surely not enough. So, the club is going to take these major steps.

But the real problem has arisen from another place. According to reports 4 of the FC Barcelona’s squad are not on the list pay cut! Those are Frenkie de Jong, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, Clement Lenglet, and Gerard Pique.

But the question is why? FC Barcelona has offered a new contract to these four players and all of them have already signed the new contract. This is the reason for their absence from that list. Some fans are also not happy about the contracts given to them. This discrimination can also harm the environment of the dressing room.

Mesut Ozil left out of 25-man Premier League squad

0

While rivals Chelsea have included retired former goalkeeper Petr Cech in their 25-man squad for the Premier League, Arsenal have left out Mesut Ozil from their set of players to choose from this season.

The decision has been a tough pill for the German to swallow, who voiced his opinion on social media with the following message to his fans:

Ozil is the highest-paid player at Arsenal in the history of the club and is not even eligible to make up the numbers on the bench during match days. He joins centre back Sokratis as one of the other players to be left out.Β

The Β£350 thousand wage every single week has been supplemented with an Β£8 million loyalty bonus by the club very recently. However, the expenses won’t last too long as it is now being evidently clear that the attacking midfielder has no future at Arsenal.

ozil de bruyne Mesut Ozil left out of 25-man Premier League squad

At 32, Ozil still has one or two good years left in him, but it is unlikely that any teams in Europe’s top five leagues will be willing to match his wages at Arsenal.

A transfer to less competitive leagues like the MLS, Turkish or Chinese leagues would be the ideal move for the player as the teams there can pay his wages whilst offering him minutes and the absence of the mountain of pressure that European football brings.

mesut ozil donates money for children surgeries in brazil Mesut Ozil left out of 25-man Premier League squad

The former Real Madrid man joined Arsenal in 2013, and has failed to live up to the hype. His talent is undoubtedly world-class, but a lack of good performances on the pitch has seen him left out of the season’s plans by Mikel Arteta.

The possible reason for the absence of Ozil and Sokratis from the 25-man Premier League squad for the season has been deemed to be the homegrown players rule by the Daily Star

According to the rule, Arsenal are not allowed to have 21 non-homegrown players in their squad. Hence, meeting the required number of heads at 19 has resulted in the pair being left out.Β

IPL 2020 – RR vs SRH: Match preview, Fantasy XI team and Prediction

Match 40 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 will feature a heated match as Rajasthan Royals will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The contention for that number 4 spot on the points table is very much on and it’s going to be competitive! Both RR and SRH have to win all their remaining matches to solidify a place in the playoffs. The loser, therefore, will have to win their remaining matches with a healthy run rate and depend on other teams to make it further.

RR is coming off a great win over the Chennai Super Kings. SRH, on the other hand, is coming off a close super over loss against the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Rajasthan Royals

Better late than never, the Royals have finally found a decent combination. They had come really close to a win in their previous matches against the Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore but botched at the end. Finally, they were able to put up a solid performance against CSK.

The change in their batting lineup has worked out fairly well. With skipper Steve Smith and Jos Buttler taking care of the middle-order, the top order can play freely. Ben Stokes and Sanju Samson will have to gain some form and contribute for them to qualify. Their bowlers are doing good with Jofra Archer, Karthik Tyagi, Shreyas Gopal, and Rahul Tewatia in decent form.

Josjpg IPL 2020 – RR vs SRH: Match preview, Fantasy XI team and Prediction

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Interestingly like the Royals, SRH played a similar gamble as skipper David Warner took the responsibility of batting in the middle-order. They opened with Kane Williamson so that he could get a chance to bat more freely. The gamble almost paid off as SRH almost pulled off a victory. However, the scores tied and they lost in the super over.

david warner ipl srh IPL 2020 – RR vs SRH: Match preview, Fantasy XI team and Prediction
(PC- Indian Express)

Fantasy XI team

DAVID WARNER (10.5) (C) β€“ David Warner has been in phenomenal form and has been consistent as well. He’ll be my captain.

JOS BUTTLER (9.5) (VC) – Buttler is coming off scoring a great 70 off just 48 balls against CSK. He’ll be our vice-captain.

JOHNNY BAIRSTOW (10) β€“ After what he did few matches ago against KXIP, he makes a way in our team. However, he’ll have to be more consistent.

STEVE SMITH (9.5) β€“ Skipper Steve Smith has been fairly consistent. He can turn the tables anytime he goes to bat!

RAHUL TEWATIA (9.5) β€“ IPL 2020 has been Tewatia’s tournament so far. He has been a great finisher and match-winner for the Royals.

VIJAY SHANKAR (8) β€“ He can score handy runs with the bat and can also give 2-3 solid overs.

PRIYAM GARG (8) – The U-19 fame can hit some big shots in the middle-order.

JOFRA ARCHER (9.5) β€“ Archer looked in a great rhythm and is among the leading wicket-takers of the season.

RASHID KHAN (9.5) – The Dubai pitch will offer some assistance to Rashid Khan.

SHREYAS GOPAL (8.5) – Gopal has been in good form and the Dubai pitch will assist him.

KARTIK TYAGI (8) β€“ The U-19 fame impressed everyone with his speed. He has a good short ball as well with which he took the wicket of Quinton De Kock in his IPL debut.

PREDICTION

Rajasthan Royals are clearly looking more balanced at the moment. Even though they’ve made changes, they have adapted. Also, keeping in mind the Dubai surface, in form Shreyas Gopal and Rahul Tewatia are expected to get some assistance. Rajasthan Royals will therefore defeat the Sunrisers Hyderabad
