IPL 2020: Shikhar Dhawan’s historic ton makes him the second-highest run-scorer in IPL 2020

Around a week ago, Delhi Capitals’ Shikhar Dhawan had a record with which he wouldn’t have liked to be associated with. He was the player which the highest number of matches without (167) scoring an IPL century.

However, in just a week, not only did he ended this stint, he landed on the opposite spectrum as he became the first batsman to score consecutive centuries in the history of the IPL.

Dhawan scored a match-winning knock off 101 not out in just 58 balls against the mighty CSK bowling attack to take his through. He then scored a phenomenal 106 not out in just 61 balls against the Kings XI Punjab. He has scored 50+ runs in his last 4 innings.

Dhawan’s form would be a sigh of relief for the Delhi Capitals’ fans as opener Prithvi Shaw and skipper Shreyas Iyer are suffering from some poor form after starting the tournament strongly.

Mayank Agarwal – 398 runs

Faf Du Plessis – 375 runs

Virat Kohli – 347 runs

Dhawan did not have the reputation as that of a T20 batsman which had him getting dropped from the Indian T20 side. However, this proves that he’s a serious contender for the opening slot along with KL Rahul.

The interesting observation is that all batsmen play traditional cricketing shots and their extensions. This season, therefore, proves that you don’t necessarily have to be a slogger. You can manipulate the field, rotate the strike, target specific bowlers, play according to the pitch and situation, and still score runs at a healthy strike rate.
