Why Trump’s TikTok Ban Is A Lot Harder To Enforce Than India’s

0

Donald Trump has followed through on his threat to ban TikTok by signing an executive order that prevents US transactions with ByteDance, the company that owns TikTok. The reason is being cited as national security and specifically cited India’s action of banning 59 Chinese apps in his order.

India was in an escalated border skirmish against China a few weeks back and that has lead to a massive public outcry against Chinese companies. The Indian government used that to ban Chinese companies to prevent them from stealing unauthorized information.

India has a history of banning apps and websites from its internet which, though, free is far from being without regulation. Movies get censored, betting in India is illegal (although a lot of betting apps function perfectly fine in the country), books get banned, constitution amendments are made overnight, and even money can be banned!

TikTok eyes to earn $500 Million revenue in 2020 from the US alone

The USA is not like this in many regards and this is why a bank on TikTok is going to be much harder to push through.

Trump’s executive order lasts for 45 days after which he can issue another one. Adding more intrigue to this entire saga is the news that Microsoft is looking to acquire TikTok. We initially thought that this was going to be limited to the US business of TikTok but now it appears as it is going to be a global takeover.

The same reasoning has been given to banning WeChat as well. India and Australia have both placed restrictions on the use of WeChat in their countries as Trump’s order mentions. WeChat is basically a chat application with a lot of other mini-apps built into it. It is not very popular in the non-Chinese origin Americans and so this ban might be a bit easier to get away with.

We are not sure how well the American public is going to take its President openly threatening and intimidating global companies just because India has done the same. Freedom of speech is always a bigger issue in the US than it is in India where we are more used to our choices being made for us. The precedent that this ban set is going to be hotly debated on TV news networks, legal circles, and you can be sure that a legal challenge to this order is around the corner.

Trump may have opened up a can of worms with this decision and with the elections rolling around, the fallout could be pretty nasty for him.

IPL 2020 records first COVID-19 case as Rajasthan Royals fielding coach tests positive for Coronavirus

IPL 2020 has been scheduled to take place in UAE from 19th September with the final being held on 10th November. BCCI decided to move this year’s IPL outside of India due to the Coronavirus pandemic. India is the third-highest most affected country in the world.

IPL has now recorded its first Corona-positive case. Rajasthan Royals has informed that their fielding coach Dishant Yagnik has tested positive for COVID-19.

Rajasthan Royals said in a statement: “Rajasthan Royals would like to inform that their fielding coach Dishant Yagnik has tested positive for COVID-19. The test was undertaken keeping in mind that the team members need to assemble in Mumbai next week for their flight to the UAE.”

“The franchise implemented an extra test for all players, support staff and management travelling to the UAE in addition to the two tests recommended by BCCI, to ensure as robust a process as possible.”

Yagnik will be in home-quarantine in his hometown Udaipur for the next 14 days. Fortunately, no other player or staff has been affected by him.

All the IPL franchises have instructed their players to self-quarantine themselves and monitor their body temperatures on a daily basis. BCCI has instructed all players to enter their body temperatures on the centralised app provided by the BCCI.

One of the IPL franchise said: “The entire team, support staff who will be entering IPL 2020 bio-bubble has been asked to monitor their temperatures and enter the same in the centralize app provided by the IPL management.”

The players will be monitored strictly before they are allowed to enter the IPL 2020 bio-bubble in UAE.

Joao Felix wants to emulate Griezmann’s success under Simeone

0

Joao Felix is having a somewhat mixed first season at Atletico Madrid. He joined the LaLiga club for €126 million from Benfica. He was seen as the heir to Antoine Griezmann who moved to Barcelona last summer.

The Portuguese international scored eight goals and provided three assists in 35 appearances across all competitions for Atletico till now. He is expected to lead Atletico’s hopes in the Champions League.

The 20-year-old wants to shine under Diego Simeone just like Griezmann did. He likes Simeone’s style of play and has no problem playing under the Argentine.

Joao Felix told Marca: “If I can do what Griezmann has done or improve it, it will be fine because he has made history in this club.”

“He has done it very well, he has grown a lot with El Cholo [Simeone], and if I do it the same, better for me.”

Joao Felix is more suited to Barca than Atletico Madrid, says Joao Mario

Joao Felix has an attacking style of play and Simeone’s side usually plays a defensive game so many football experts think Felix won’t succeed under Simeone like Sergio Aguero. Aguero struggled to get goals at Atletico but has now become a club legend at Manchester City.

Joao Felix has overtaken Aguero this season as the youngest Champions League goalscorer in Atletico Madrid’s history. He said: “Kun [Sergio Aguero] is now a great player, but when he was at Atletico, I was five years old and I don’t remember anything. It’s good to break records, all the players like to make history and of course I’m happy to be part of Atletico’s history and to have surpassed a player like Kun.”

“Many people say one thing, others say another, but I am here to play Cholo football and I do what he asks. Let’s see. I’m adapting to Spain, doing my football, I’m meeting the club and always thinking of improving.”

“As I said, I play because I like it and I am not worried about what the press or others think. I try not to see [the criticism], but there are some that I hear or come to me, but what am I going to do? Listen and follow my work.”

Joao Felix can leave all the criticisms behind if he can lead Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. Atletico Madrid has been two-time runners-up in the competition in the last decade but has lost to their city rivals Real Madrid on both occasions. If Felix can do one better he would certainly achieve more than what Griezmann did in just one season.

The Portuguese international said: “Yes, the Champions League is always the high point of any player and even more so playing it here in Lisbon, at home, I am very happy and it is very good for me.”

Atletico Madrid will face RB Leipzig in the Champions League quarter-finals on Thursday. Joao Felix is expected to perform well in his home soil.

Frenkie de Jong is confident about Champions League action in Lisbon

0

The Dutch midfielder of Barcelona is one of the best players in their midfield and before going to Lisbon to face the favorites Bayern Munich, De Jong has spoken to BeIN USA. Naturally, there were questions about their expectation, mentality, and what they the team expects to face the current Bundesliga champions who are on fire this season.

First, he was asked about his strong performance against Napoli on Saturday that led 3-1 win:

“I think it was an OK match. I think we did well against a good team. Napoli is a difficult opponent but we had a good lead at all times. We got a good result in the first half so we could relax a bit in the second.”

Here's why Frenkie de Jong had his hand bandaged in the match against Napoli

Next, he was also asked about his swollen hand which forced him to bandage his hands:

“It was a wasp. I don’t what it is, an allergic reaction or something but it doesn’t bother me!”

Want to know more what happened to his hands read here: Here’s why Frenkie de Jong had his hand bandaged in the match against Napoli

Then, he was asked about the Finals in Lisbon:

“The team is very confident going to Lisbon. We are one of the best teams in the world with some great players. We have very positive energy and are feeling fine as a team.”

Frenkie was also asked about their tough opponent for the quarter finals – Bayern Munich:

“I don’t mind who the favourites are. Bayern have a really good team and are in really good form but we’ll what happens. After the game on Friday we can say who’s best.”

Frenkie De Jong back in the squad, Dembele continues his recovery at Barcelona training ground

When he was asked about Champions League favourites, he said:

“We are one of the favourites, but Barça always are. But there are several teams that could win the Champions League.”

“The format gives a little advantage to the underdogs. They have a better chance to cause surprises in one game than they have in a home and away game.”

Friday’s match will be one of the most exciting ones in the Champions League history and Barcelona players are ready to face the favorites. It will be interesting to see if Bayern will ultimately beat a Spanish team as they have always been beaten by one in the history before almost five times in the last couple of years, obviously, this can change with their unbeaten form or Messi and is team might again prove wrong to the German giants.

BCCI plan to raise around Rs 300 crores from sponsorship deals of IPL 2020

BCCI has faced a major setback for IPL 2020 when Chinese smartphone manufacturer, VIVO pulled out of this edition of IPL. VIVO had a five-year deal of around Rs 2199 crores with BCCI for the IPL title sponsorship.

This decision of VIVO has cost BCCI a loss of Rs 440 crores for IPL 2020. Now BCCI is trying to get a new title sponsor on board for this edition to cut off the losses.

BCCI has chalked out a plan to raise around Rs 300 crores from sponsorship revenues of IPL 2020. They are targeting around Rs 225-250 crores from the title sponsorship partner for IPL 2020 and the remaining Rs 50-75 crores by filling 2 of the 3 available IPL partnership slots.

Currently Tata Motors, FBB and Dream11 are the official partners for the IPL. BCCI still has 3 vacant slots in the official partners’ category. So, they will now try to get at least 2 partners. Already many companies like Unacademy, Cred, Coke and a leading two-wheeler company has shown interest in being the official partner of IPL but nothing has been officially finalised yet.

According to a report by InsideSport, BCCI made Rs 618 crores from the IPL 2019 Sponsors.

  • Title Sponsor – VIVO – Rs 440 crores
  • Official Partners – Tata Motors, FBB and Dream 11 – Rs 120 crores
  • Umpire Sponsor – PAYTM – Rs 28 crores
  • Strategic Timeout Partner – CEAT – Rs 30 crores

So, BCCI wants to raise around Rs 300 crores after they lost out on the Rs 440 crores from VIVO. In this financial condition due to the Coronavirus pandemic, if BCCI manages to raise Rs 300 crores and cut their loses to only Rs 140 crores it will be regarded as an achievement by BCCI.

BCCI now wants to finalize all the sponsor deals by next week so that they can fully focus on hosting the IPL 2020 in UAE from 19th September.

China feuds chip battle as it hires over 100 TSMC engineers

0

After the US trade ban, Chinese companies like Huawei has become crippled as it cannot make chips from TSMC and this has hurt the business of these companies. China has always made its own solution to its problems and has tried native approach to curb the problem.

Obviously the headline is enough to shock you because as reported by Nikkei Asian Review, two of the Chinese government-backed chip projects have jointly hired more than 100 veteran engineers along with managers from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. or TSMC. Undoubtedly, this kind of hirings aims towards helping Beijing achieve its goal to achieve a self-sufficient domestic chip industry so that it can cut China’s reliance on foreign suppliers.

TSMC unveils its new 6nm chip manufacturing process

These two companies include Quanxin Integrated Circuit Manufacturing (Jinan), or QXIC, and Wuhan Hongxin Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., or HSMC, along with their various associations and affiliates are not among the most popular figures in this sector. Not only they have employed more than 50 former TSMC employees each, but also both of them are led by ex-TSMC executives.

These two companies aim to develop 14nm and 12nm chip process technologies in China itself. Although these are two to three generations behind TSMC but still can help the current deficit faced by the Chinese tech companies. In future also this will help them be self reliant and who knows make faster progress than expected.

TSMC is the world’s no 1 chipmaker currently with a lot of customers worldwide and provides chips to top weight US tech companies like Qualcomm, Apple, AMD, and others. They are producing 5nm process technology currently and have their research up and running up to 2nm process.

China feuds chip battle as it hires over 100 TSMC engineers

So hiring employees from such a reputed chipmaker makes sense to bring in their minds to manufacture refined chip manufacturing processes in China. Hongxin and QXIC were founded in 2017 and 2019, respectively, to boost China’s semiconductor industry. Beijing is prioritizing more on self-sufficiency in key technological advancements that are impacted by tensions with Washington.

In the coming years, China is said to be the top among other countries in chipmaking equipment spending and plans to invest more for future chip facilities, in 2020 and 2021, according to SEMI. China’s current top contract chipmaker is the state-backed Semiconductor Manufacturing International Co. or SMIC that has recently raised its capital spending for the second time this year to a whopping $6.7 billion for 2020.

Not only that, but it will also even build a $7.6 billion joint-venture factory with the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area. This is enough to portray how much concerned the Chinese government is towards tech and making it self reliant in every aspect. On top of that these emerging semiconductor projects, like QXIC and Hongxin, are also being supported by local governments to contribute to their semiconductor project.

TSMC unveils its new 6nm chip manufacturing process

This is has led these companies to hunt for top talents in this field and undoubtedly, TSMC does have such talent in abundance to stand strong in the whole world. Nikkei’s sources have said, “Hongxin offered some amazing packages, as high as two to 2.5 times TSMC’s total annual salary and bonuses for those people.”

China wants to build an empire in its own country and that’s why they have become such desperate to face the US government and apart from being a superpower, it also wants to top the US in tech as well. It’s no secret anymore that already the Chinese apps, smartphones, and equipment have already captured the markets across the globe and now if they somehow become successful in the semiconductor industry as well, then they do not have to rely on anyone anymore.
