AMD CEO expresses her surprise at the increasing demand for Sony’ PS5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X|S

The continued high demand for both the PS5 and the Xbox Series X|S has impressed AMD CEO, Lisa Su. It’s no secret that since the consoles were released late last year, demand for the next-gen consoles has been tremendous. Both consoles are still hard to come by due to continued supply shortages caused by the global epidemic.

AMD’s CEO was asked about the current supply problem and seasonality during a recent financial conference call with investors. AMD will increase chip output next year, and she expects Sony and Microsoft to have another great year in 2022, while she believes 2023 will be the “peak year” for next-gen consoles.

“Well, I think — first of all, I think the console business, this console cycle and all when you look at it in totality, has been amazing”, Su said. “I mean if you think about the strength of the cycle, now we’re sort of deep into the second year and the fact that the demand is so high. I mean we’ve been shipping a lot of products.

So the fact that the demand is still high says something about just sort of the product capability that’s been captured by both Microsoft and Sony in this console cycle. We’re continuing to ramp up production. We expect 2022 to be another strong growth year for consoles. If you look at the typical console cycle, the peak year is the fourth year typically. And so you would expect maybe 2023 would be the peak year.”

Seasonality has gotten more “muted” as COVID-19 continues to disrupt supply chains, according to the CEO. As a result, in this context, annual regular and predictable changes in sales are somewhat out the window.

“But to the overall point is, look, it’s a great platform. We love the fact that we have so many users that are using AMD technology on the console platform and we’ll continue to ramp up supply. And from a seasonality standpoint, yes, you’re right. Seasonality does become more muted in this environment until we get to sort of a more normalized environment.”

Both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S is available globally now (if you’re able to get your hands on one). Sony and Microsoft launched their consoles back in November of last year.

Victor Font is one of the leading candidates to become FC Barcelona’s presidential position and has a promising future for FC Barcelona.

Font on Wednesday stated that his plans for the club’s future, which includes bringing in Jordi Cruyff as sporting director and have been drawn up with the help of Xavi.

“As [general manager], Xavi will ultimately take responsibility for all the decisions taken related to football at the club,” Font said at a news conference.

“He has everything needed: he can manage, he can lead, he has the trust of the players, he knows the club and he loves the club.”

Font said he eventually sees Xavi combining the two roles but added that boss Ronald Koeman deserves to be backed for now.

“We have to show confidence in Koeman, we’re halfway through the season,” he added.

Font is one of nine candidates to be elected as the successor to Josep Maria Bartomeu as Barca president.

Five other areas were also highlighted: medical services, physical preparation and physiotherapy, behavior and psychology with Inma Puig and Toni Nadal as leaders, methodology with Joan Vilà and Paco Seirul·lo, and talent management with Emili Ricart.

Juli Lopez would be named the director-general of sports, who would look over the club’s five different sports sections, i.e., football, basketball, handball, hockey, and indoor football, across both male and female divisions, and also, the club’s amateur teams.

A yet-to-be-named CEO would look over the business side, and both would be answerable to the club’s board. Font has pledged that under him, the board would stay out of day-to-day sports decisions too. He has criticized earlier boards for stepping over experts and giving decisions and said that his board would only look at whether recommendations were feasible economically or for other reasons.

Recently it has also been seen that how Font is the early frontrunner for the position, of which there are now nine confirmed candidates.

Gini Wijnaldum will let the club know about the update on his contract soon, that is according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano and Francesco Porzio on their Here We Go podcast. The pair also mentioned in the same episode that10 days ago, Wijnaldum received a bid from Liverpool regarding the new contract but it was not the right one.

There were differences between the player and the club regarding the monetary side of things, along with possibly, regarding the duration of the new contract as well.

The player has since asked for time and is respectful towards Liverpool and before negotiating with any other club, he wants to be clear regarding communication with Liverpool.

A few weeks ago, Renato Sanches was linked with Liverpool for a possible move in the future. The Portuguese midfielder’s situation was addressed in the podcast, and the verdict was that Liverpool were not looking to sign him in January.

According to Romano and Porzio, the big deals will only take place next summer as mentioned before.

Williamson and Pat Cummins top the ICC Test ranking

New Zealand Skipper Kane Williamson overtakes India Captain Virat Kohli and Australian skipper Steve Smith in the ICC Test ranking announced by ICC on Thursday.

Kane Williamson bagged the top spot for batsmen in the ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings, after his ‘Player of the Match’ award in the first Test against Pakistan in Tauranga. Williamson continued his aggressive form in the longer format as he clinched his 23rd Test hundred in the first Test against Pakistan at Bay Oval.

At the end of 2015, Williamson briefly acquired this top place but Virat Kohli or Steve Smith occupied the place again. On Thursday’s year-ending ICC rankings, that includes performances from the 2nd Test between Australia and India in Melbourne and the 1st Test between South Africa and Sri Lanka in Centurion.

From that, Williamson has gained 13 rating points for his impressive performance of 129 and 21 to 11 points clear of Kohli and 13 ahead of Smith. Virat Kohli is on paternity leave for the last two Tests of India’s ongoing series against Australia. Meanwhile, Smith at Melbourne Cricket Ground could only get him scores of zero and eight.

Also, Ajinkya Rahane has alss advanced five places to reach the sixth position in ICC Test rankings.

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja moved up 11 spots to a career best-equalling to 36th place among batsmen after a handy knock of 57 in his only innings in Melbourne and also gained four places to reach 14th place among bowlers after finishing with three wickets in the match.

New Zealand’s Ross Taylor advanced up three places to 14th.

Pakistan’s Fawad Alam’s aggressive second-innings century has helped him climb 80 places to 102nd position meanwhile wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan’s score of 71 and 60 have helped him climb 27 places to a career-best 47th position.

Pat Cummins ranked no. 1 at the ICC Test bowlers ranking. Also Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin climbed up two places to acquire the seventh spot and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is also up one place to bag the ninth position.

Meanwhile Mitchell Starc entered the top five position. Also Jason Holder climbed to seven points.

January’s PS Plus Free Games Packs Maneater for PS5, Greedfall, and More

Sony has disclosed the free PS Plus games subscribers will be given a chance to tackle in January. It looks like, players can expect three games every month going forward, two for PlayStation 4 (via backward compatibility the games can be played on PS5), and one for PlayStation 5. In the upcoming month, we get the PlayStation 5 version of the unique fantasy-historical RPG Greedfall, the dark Lara Croft adventure Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and the terrifying shark sim Maneater.

Maneater (PS5)

RB Leipzig’s Marcel Sabitzer is a quality player and would be perfect for the Premier League, according to Fabrizio Romano and Francesco Porzio on their Here We Go podcast on Patreon.

The player has been scouted for months by the Tottenham scouts and is also appreciated by Jose Mourinho. A big-money deal could be on the cards for the attacking midfielder. However, Spurs have not yet made any advanced bid. Neither have they entered negotiations with the club.

All that said, there is no rush for either the player or the club to enter negotiation for a transfer. A January deal looks unlikely since Sabitzer is a significant player in Julian Nagelsmann’s squad. Furthermore, Leipzig has also managed to qualify for the Champions League’s knockout stages and are also competing for the Bundesliga title.

With all these important fixtures coming up one after the other, Leipzig will almost certainly not be interested in parting ways with the Swiss international, even for a big sum.

However, a move next summer could be on the cards.

Marten De Roon is also another name heavily linked with a move to Spurs. He is one of the key players of Atalanta and will be very important for the knockout stages of the Champions League as well. There is nothing advanced for the transfer yet, but the scouts are on it. Atalanta always sells players and are known to be a selling club, but there is nothing concrete yet.

England’s work permit situation will also play a part in the arrival of the winger from Ecuador should any Premier League club be successful in signing him. The player is reportedly keen on joining one of the world’s biggest clubs, and he has several suitors to choose from.

Xiaomi Mi 11 has 6.81-inch 2K WQHD (1,440×3,200 pixels) AMOLED display. It comes with 1500 nits of peak brightness and a 5000000:1 contrast ratio. It has a refresh rate of 120Hz.

Vivo X60 Pro has 6.56-inch full-HD+ (1,080×2,376 pixels) AMOLED display. It also has a refresh rate of 120Hz.

Xiaomi Mi 11 comes with a 4,600mAh battery pack whereas Vivo X60 Pro and Oppo Reno 5Pro+ have 4,200mAh battery 4,500mAh battery pack respectively. Mi 11 and Oppo Reno 5PRO+ will comfortably beat Vivo X60 Pro in this aspect.

Price

Mi 11 starts with a price range of 3,999 Yuan. Oppo Reno 5PRO+ will cost you the same. Vivo X60 Pro is the most expensive as it comes for 4,498 Yuan. The processor of a smartphone is one of the most important aspects to judge. Mi 11 is powered by a better version of Snapdragon thus it should get priority on a price basis.
