Bhooth Bangla Review: The Akshay-Priyadarshan Reunion Bollywood’s Comedy Genre Has Been Desperately Waiting For

After 14 long years, two of Bollywood’s most beloved collaborators are back together — and honestly? It feels like coming home.

Bhooth Bangla Review

What’s Bhooth Bangla Story?

Arjun (Akshay Kumar) is a spoilt brat drowning in financial debt after his company incurs massive losses. Fate intervenes and he lands in the majestic palace of his grandfather in Mangalpur, Jaipur. The palace carries an eerie reputation — his grandfather Shambhunath ji warns Arjun about spooky occurrences, but Arjun dismisses them as mind games. His primary aim is to host his sister Meera’s wedding at the palace. But everything is thrown into question when he learns about a ghost that abducts every new bride.

What Works Brilliantly

The reunion of Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan after 14 years is nothing short of a celebration for cinephiles, further elevated by the presence of Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav — integral parts of Priyadarshan’s cult comedy universe.

When it comes to situational comedy, Priyadarshan remains unmatched. The first half is a delightful ride, cleverly weaving in dialogues reminiscent of Bhaagam Bhaag, Hungama, and Chup Chup Ke, seamlessly blending nostalgia with the narrative.

A major highlight is the visual effects. The second half relies heavily on VFX and it is executed with finesse — something rarely seen in this genre. That alone makes it worth the price of a ticket.

The film also taps beautifully into the horror-comedy genre that Indian audiences have always had a soft spot for, delivering genuine scares alongside genuine laughs — a balance very few Hindi films manage to strike.

What Doesn’t Quite Work

Bhooth Bangla could have done perfectly well without songs — the ones included are largely forgettable. The direction feels predictable at times, and Wamiqa Gabbi’s track in particular feels slightly out of place.

Conclusion

This is the most fun you’ll have in a cinema hall in 2026 if you’re a fan of old-school Priyadarshan chaos — big personalities, bigger laughs, and just enough spookiness to keep you on your toes. It’s not flawless, but it’s full of heart, and right now, that’s exactly what Bollywood comedy needs.
