Haiwaan Box Office: Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan Starrer Opens to a Weak Rs. 2.50 Crore Day 1

Not every big-star pairing guarantees box office fireworks, and Haiwaan is proof of that. Despite bringing together Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan, the crime thriller opened to a muted Rs. 2.25-2.50 crore nett on its first day, marking one of the weakest openings for an A-lister-led film in recent memory.

Haiwaan : Overview

Why the Opening Fell Flat

The film’s soft start places it alongside other underwhelming A-lister openings, most involving Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn, both known for a high volume of yearly releases. With a crime-thriller premise that offered limited novelty and a trailer that failed to generate real buzz, Haiwaan was largely riding on Akshay Kumar’s star value alone — and that only stretches so far without stronger content hooks.

Context Matters

It’s worth noting that expectations were modest heading in, which somewhat softens the blow of a weak opening. Akshay Kumar has had a genuinely strong year otherwise, delivering a hit with Bhooth Bangla and a solid performer in Welcome to the Jungle. Haiwaan, by contrast, was always a no-expectation release, and its underperformance carries limited long-term impact on his overall box office standing.

The Bigger Picture

The trend does highlight an ongoing industry concern: a high volume of releases from a small pool of bankable stars can dilute individual film performance. Still, the broader box office landscape has been healthy over the past couple of months, with a steady stream of successful releases keeping overall industry momentum positive.
