Tamil cinema fans, your Diwali 2026 just got a massive upgrade. Silambarasan TR’s most-awaited collaboration with master filmmaker Vetrimaaran is on the fast track — and here’s why this film could be the biggest Tamil release of the year.
Shoot Wrapping by June, Release Eyed for Diwali 2026
Arasan is expected to complete shooting by the first week of June 2026, making a Diwali theatrical release highly likely. That’s an exciting timeline — and the production seems fully committed to it.
Vetrimaaran himself revealed that the shoot for Arasan would be quicker than his previous films, as he had completed the script well in advance, and also confirmed that footage from the film would be released soon. That’s a big deal — Vetrimaaran films are rare, and when he’s confident, fans have every reason to be excited.

A Star-Studded Spin-Off From the Vada Chennai Universe
Arasan is set within the Vada Chennai cinematic universe and serves as a spin-off of the Dhanush starrer, also featuring Yogalakshmi and Chaitra J. Achar in key roles.
Vijay Sethupathi is expected to play a police officer, reuniting with STR for the second time after Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, directed by Mani Ratnam. That pairing alone is enough to set pulses racing.
What makes Arasan extra special is its music. The film’s score is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, marking his first-ever collaboration with Vetrimaaran — a combination that sounds like pure gold on paper.
Priyanka Arul Mohan is also expected to join the shoot from April 2, 2026, playing one of the co-leads, while Simbu rejoined the production in mid-March sporting a notably more rugged look compared to the first schedule.
The Vada Chennai cinematic universe has already established itself as one of Tamil cinema’s most compelling crime sagas — and Arasan promises to expand it in style.
