Maharaja 2: Vijay Sethupathi Confirms Sequel, Offers to Work for Free in Hollywood Remake. Some actors chase paychecks. Vijay Sethupathi is chasing a dream — and he’s willing to work for nothing to make it happen.

Maharaja 2 Is Officially in the Works

Speaking at the audio launch of his upcoming film Baththa, Sethupathi confirmed that director Nithilan Saminathan has already narrated the story of Maharaja 2 to him, calling it “so beautiful.” Details like the release date, full cast, and production schedule remain unannounced, but the confirmation alone is enough to excite fans of the 2024 neo-noir hit.

A Free Ticket to Hollywood

The bigger headline, though, is Sethupathi’s reaction to news that Maharaja’s Hollywood remake rights have been sold. Without hesitation, he told producer Sudhan Sundaram he’d act in the remake for free — just to get a role. “I’ll act in one movie for free. Get me a role in that Hollywood remake. I’ll go to Hollywood!” he said, adding that working internationally has long been a personal dream.

Is McConaughey Really Involved?

Reports have linked Hollywood star Matthew McConaughey to the remake’s lead role, but producer Sundaram was careful to clarify that only the agency handling the project can confirm casting. For now, it remains speculation rather than fact.

Why This Story Resonates

Maharaja’s journey — a modest-budget Tamil thriller that found massive success in India, China, and globally on Netflix — makes this Hollywood interest genuinely earned rather than manufactured hype. Sethupathi’s willingness to work without pay only adds to the humble, fan-favourite image that’s made him one of Tamil cinema’s most respected actors.
