Jailer 2 Cameo Buzz: Is Vijay Sethupathi’s 15-Minute Twist the Sequel’s Best-Kept Secret?

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has fans buzzing again — this time over reports that Vijay Sethupathi quietly shot a meaty cameo that could run up to 15 minutes on screen.

What’s the Report Saying?

According to industry tracker Valai Pechu, Sethupathi reportedly worked off a two-day call sheet for the film — one day in Chennai, another in Goa — with his total screen time pegged at around 15 minutes. That’s a fairly substantial cameo by Kollywood standards, more of a mini role than a blink-and-miss appearance.

There’s a catch, though: none of this has been confirmed by the Jailer 2 team. What has been confirmed, straight from Sethupathi himself, is that he agreed to appear in the film at all — a notable move since the actor has long maintained a personal no-cameo policy. Breaking that rule specifically to share screen space with Rajinikanth says a lot about how much weight this project carries in the industry.

Jailer 2 : Overview

A Sequel Built on Star Power

The original Jailer leaned heavily on surprise cameos to build hype, and it looks like the sequel is doubling down on that formula. Beyond Sethupathi, reports point to appearances from Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, and even Hrithik Roshan — a lineup that would make Jailer 2 one of the most star-studded pan-Indian releases of the year.

On the antagonist front, Vidya Balan, SJ Suryah, and Suraj Venjaramoodu have already had their character glimpses unveiled, hinting at a stacked villain roster to match Rajinikanth’s screen presence.

What’s Next for the Stars?

Once Jailer 2 wraps its release cycle, Rajinikanth moves straight into Dharman, a project co-produced by Kamal Haasan and directed by Ashwath Marimuthu. Beyond that, a tentative Rajinikanth–Kamal Haasan reunion film, helmed once again by Nelson Dilipkumar, is already generating chatter.

Sethupathi, meanwhile, has a packed slate ahead — Train with director Mysskin, Slum Dog: 33 Temple Road with Puri Jagannadh, a key role in the STR-starrer Arasan, and Pocket Novel.

Why This Matters for Fans?

A confirmed but undetailed cameo is the perfect recipe for pre-release speculation — and Jailer 2‘s marketing seems to be leaning into exactly that. With Anirudh Ravichander’s music already generating buzz and character posters rolling out steadily, the film is positioning itself as a full-blown event release rather than just another Rajinikanth vehicle.
