Apple wants to succeed in India: here’s the proof

The Cupertino giant is heavily targeting the world’s second-largest smartphone market after all the China-US trade issues. Apple doesn’t even acquire 1% of the Indian smartphone market share but is genuinely trying to pull customers who have been much attracted to Chinese manufacturers.

Apple Online Store & One Program

Apple has already launched its own online store for the first time and is giving all the care to its customers with a variety of its services. This includes Apple’s recently announced Apple One program that entitles you the access to an entire range of its services like Apple Music, iCloud and others.

While pricing the Apple One service at $14.95 a month in other countries, the company has priced in India the same Individual program for Apple One at just ₹195/month that is about $2.67 only not even a quarter of the original pricing.

On the other hand, the Apple One program for Family will cost just ₹365/month that costs $19.95 a month originally. This indeed proves how Apple is concerned with its sales in the country and plans to bring in more customers towards its own environment.

Apple has deliberately launched its Online Store on the eve of India’s biggest festive season to target people who are looking to upgrade to new phones. Its first big offer announcement comes in the form of offering AirPods for FREE with iPhone 11 this Diwali.

Also, if you are an IPL lover, then you might have seen how much Apple is spending on ads to Hotstar in every match advertisements. This indeed proves Apple is focusing on bringing more iPhone customers and even its new iPad, which also makes sense in a budget-minded country like India.

Off late, Apple is also advertising more about its online store in every form of media like Google AdSense, YouTube, Twitter and wherever they can to churn in Indian fans.

Manufacturing

Apple makes its products via third party contractors like Foxconn & Wistron, now they have already applied for Indian Govt’s Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI) that entitles them to get 4% to 6% incentive over a five-year period on incremental sales for the manufacturers on a yearly basis.

Now, interestingly all of Apple’s major contractors applied for the scheme and they have already cleared by a high-powered government committee. This included Apple’s primary supplier Foxconn Technology Group, which had submitted two applications, and its peers Wistron Corp. and Pegatron Corp.

Pegatron, who is the second-largest iPhone assembler after Foxconn predominant in China, has registered a subsidiary in India for expanding its manufacturing in the country. Apple even accounts for more than half of Pegatron’s business and if its application is approved, Pegatron will be setting up its first factory in Chennai which will be PLI scheme approved.

Apple will be moving 20% of the iPhone production in India. Already Foxconn is expanding its factories in India while Winstron will be making iPhone SE (2020) production in India. If Pegatron too starts the local manufacturing, revenue may go up to around $40 billion in the next five years as predicted.

Already we are seeing dropped iPhone 11, iPhone XR and iPhone SE prices, so with days things can get even better and Apple can make more iPhones customized for Indian fans. Apple’s latest 8th Gen iPad is already a major hit in the country with stocks getting over as soon as it is available.

It has already partnered with major banks like HDFC bank to gives easy financing options. Along with that, major ties with Flipkart and Amazon has helped them to give deep discounts on the upcoming sales. If things go like this, India will become the next biggest market for Apple in the coming days.
