Apple AirTag 2 has been unveiled with 50% longer Precision Finding range and a speaker that’s 50% louder than the original model, addressing the most common user complaints without raising prices. The tracker remains ₹3,900 for a single unit or ₹12,900 for a four-pack, maintaining the same design while delivering meaningful upgrades after nearly five years.

Enhanced Tracking Capabilities Through Hardware Upgrades

The new AirTag features Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband chip—the same found in iPhone 17 and Apple Watch Ultra 3—enabling Precision Finding to work up to 50% farther away. An upgraded Bluetooth chip expands overall range outside of Precision Finding mode, improving discoverability on Apple’s crowdsourced Find My network.

Apple AirTag 2 Upgrades	Improvements
Precision Finding Range	50% longer (U2 chip)
Speaker Volume	50% louder
Audible Distance	2x farther than before
Bluetooth Range	Extended for better network coverage
Apple Watch Support	Precision Finding on Series 9+, Ultra 2+
Pricing	₹3,900 (single) / ₹12,900 (4-pack) – unchanged

Louder Speaker Solves Key Usability Issue

The updated internal design makes the speaker 50% louder, enabling users to hear their AirTag from up to twice as far away. Paired with a new distinctive alert chime, this makes it easier to pinpoint misplaced items like keys hidden in couch cushions or wallets buried in bags.

The volume boost serves dual purposes: improving legitimate item finding while strengthening anti-stalking protections through more audible unwanted tracking alerts.

Apple Watch Integration and Airline Partnerships

For the first time, Precision Finding works directly on Apple Watch Series 9 and later, plus Apple Watch Ultra 2 and newer models, letting users track items from their wrist without pulling out an iPhone.

Apple has expanded Share Item Location to 36 airlines currently supporting the feature, with 15 more planned, allowing travelers to securely share luggage locations with airlines to recover delayed or lost bags.

Same Design, Better Performance

The external form factor remains identical to the 2021 original, ensuring compatibility with all existing AirTag accessories. Weight increased only slightly due to internal redesign. The tracker continues using a CR2032 coin battery with IP67 water resistance.

Since launching in 2021, users worldwide have shared stories of reuniting with lost luggage, keys, bicycles, and bags through AirTag. The improvements directly address real-world scenarios where the original fell short.

Available to order now on Apple’s website with in-store availability coming this week, the AirTag 2 raises the bar for item trackers just as Android competitors narrowed the gap.
