Good news for Indian football fans as LaLiga club Sevilla will soon unveil a partnership with an unnamed Indian football club.

Sevilla FC’s CEO Jose Maria Cruz revealed the news while speaking in an interview. He said that the LaLiga club wants to help Indian football grow. The club wants to focus on grooming talented Indian footballers and giving them opportunities. Sevilla also wants to learn about Indian football and its culture before starting with the process. However, Cruz said that the Indian fans will have to stay patient as it is a long-term project.

“We have always been a small club with limited resources but now we want to start growing internationally. We want to define who we are and India is the main objective for us,” Jose Maria Cruz during a media interaction.

Sevilla FC made a name for themselves in Europe with a record sixth UEFA Europa League title last season. They had previously won one La Liga and five Copa del Reys and also ended their four-year trophy drought after defeating Inter Milan in the continental competition’s final back in August. Therefore, after being a formidable name in Europe, they wish to expand their collaborations more internationally.

“Yes, we want to come to India but we will never pretend to share our experience and expertise straightaway as we need to learn more about Indian football and culture first. It is a long term process. Even though we are very experienced in Spanish football and European football, we don’t pretend to transfer it to Indian players right away”, Cruz said.

Cruz concluded saying that they don’t want to start in a rush and abandon the project in a few months as similar cases have happened not only in India but other parts of the world as well.
