Sergio Ramos joins elite company with 100 goals for Real Madrid despite being a defender

A talented centre-back is something that every single manager in world football craves. However, few can match the all-round impact that Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos brings to his team.

With his goal against Inter Milan last night in the Champions League, the Spanish centre back scored his 100th goal for Los Blancos. His total career goals for club and country are at a count of 128.

55 of those 100 goals have come from headers, showing exactly how much of a threat he is going forward. Considering his status as the designated penalty taker at Real Madrid, those numbers will only go up in the days to come.

Goal number 💯 for Sergio Ramos.

Despite being 34 years of age, and amidst talks of the defender needing to be replaced, achieving a feat of such stature is sure to show the critics how good of a footballer he truly is.

He might not be a fair player or the most respected defender of all time, but he has turned up when his team needed him. Ramos has had the privilege of scoring in multiple Champions League finals, against city rivals Atletico Madrid and has led his team to every title available.

Ramos is now among some elite company, as only Fernando Hierro has scored more goals for Real Madrid, being a defender at 127.

Should Ramos spend another couple of years at Madrid, which looks very likely, he could beat Hierro’s record of 127 and add another argument as to why he is one of the best centre backs of all time.

From the bigger picture, Ramos is only 4 goals short of the original Ronaldo’s 104 goals for Madrid and 5 of Bale’s 105. By the looks of it, Ramos, a centre-back, could beat the legendary R9’s record and progress into the top 15 goalscorers for Madrid of all time by the end of the season itself.

Utterly ridiculous considering that the man is primarily responsible to stop goals from being conceded.
