According to Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport, Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes has asked Juventus for contract renewal in a rather dramatic turn of events. The super agent was previously rumoured to be working towards a move for his client, but that seems to have changed now.Â
The 36-year-old became the joint highest international goalscorer after scoring 5 goals in Euro 2020, matching Iranian legend Ali Daei’s record of scoring 109 goals in international tournaments. And despite being well into his thirties, he still plans on having another swipe at the Ballon d’Or award, in an attempt to match Lionel Messi’s six victories of the Golden Ball.
Ronaldo finished the 20/21 season as the top scorer in Serie A, despite missing out on the league title with Andrea Pirlo. Despite not winning the league title, Pirlo managed to guide his former playing club to the Coppa Italia trophy by defeating Atalanta in the finals of the competition.
Paris Saint-Germain and Ronaldo’s former club, Manchester United were linked with his signature if he did choose to leave. Considering there are few clubs he can afford his €31 million/year salary, those two were the only options for him should he have chosen to leave. But, by the looks of things now, he is willing to put on his best once again to return to the top of the Italian mountain under Max Allegri.
The player has one year left on his current deal and could extend his contract by a couple of years at least.Â
