It seemed to be a tragic day when Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen collapsed on the field. The medical team rushed in an emergency and performed CPR on the field as the Denmark team guarded their teammate Eriksen as he was receiving life-saving treatment.
The whole football world went silent with grief, and everyone was praying for the well being of Eriksen. He was quickly rushed to the hospital, and after some time, we got the good news that Eriksen is now stable and is recovering.
The match between Denmark and Finland was suspended initially but was later played out after Eriksen was in a stable condition. Finland managed to get a historic win, but Joel Pohjanpalo didn’t celebrate his goal despite it being Finland’s first goal at a major tournament.
UEFA later awarded Christian Eriksen the Man Of The Match award after heroically pulling through the tragic incident. It was really a touching gesture from UEFA.
UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin paid tribute to Eriksen in an emotional statement after the player’s collapse. He said: “Moments like this put everything in life into perspective. I wish Christian a full and speedy recovery and pray his family has strength and faith.”
“At these times, the unity of the football family is so strong and he and his family carry with them the good wishes and prayers of everyone. I heard of fans of both teams chanting his name. Football is beautiful and Christian plays it beautifully.”
Finland supporters were heard chanting the word “Christian”, and Denmark supporters completed the chant by shouting “Eriksen”. It was such a beautiful moment as all the football fans, irrespective of their countries, came together and stood united.
The Finland supporters also gave away their flags to the medical staff so that they can cover Eriksen while stretching him off the field. Football really is a beautiful game, and we just witnessed a true football moment.
