Analysing the reason behind Real Madrid’s drop in form against Leipzig and Girona

Real Madrid were handed their first loss of the season by RB Leipzig in the middle of last week. And over the weekend, they dropped two points against Girona in the domestic league.

The initial burst that the team showed has seemingly faded, with them struggling to pick up wins in their last two games. And all of a sudden, they look like a team that could be defeated.

What has caused Real Madrid’s drop in form?

The main reason behind the lack of results is due to the team having tired legs. Carlo Ancelotti is not known for rotating his team, and the abundance of minutes on the pitch has seemingly caught up with some of the players.

They have played nine games in 28 days, which means a game every three days. And as a result, it is only natural for the players to be unable to keep up with the intensity that they started the campaign with.

The absence of Karim Benzema in the number 9 position has been a detriment to the attack as well. Although Rodrygo has been used in the number 9 role, his effectiveness is not on the same level as the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner.

Moreover, a lack of defensive cohesion due to the changes to the backline in both matches could have also played a part. Real Madrid will have to play three more games prior to the World Cup, but they are in a good position to not face a lot of repercussions due to not winning their last two matches.
