According to recent findings from CMR’s Tablet PC Market Report Review for Q2 2022, which was just issued, the India tablet market expanded by 68 per cent year over year (YoY), and 4G tablets saw growth of 65 per cent YoY. In the Indian market, shipments of tablets with an 8-inch display made up 78% of all shipments.
However, tablets with 10-inch or larger displays made up 227 per cent of YoY shipments. The top three positions on the tablet leaderboard were held by Lenovo (26 per cent), Apple (19 per cent), and Samsung (19 per cent) in Q2 2022.
According to Menka Kumari, Analyst-Industry Intelligence Group (IIG), CMR, “Driven by the 5G roll-outs shortly, we foresee an impetus in 5G tablet shipments in the tablet market, similar to the trends observed in the 5G smartphone market. The gradual opening-up of the Indian economy is translating to growth in the commercial tablet business. During the quarter, OPPO and Xiaomi entered the tablet market with new offerings.”
Due mostly to its commercial operations and retail sector, Lenovo has retained its top spot in the area. The Lenovo Tab M10 (HD) (Wi-Fi+4G) series captured 58% of the market, primarily in the sector of tablets with good value (Rs 7,000–Rs 25,000).
With a 19 per cent tablet market share for Q2 2022, Apple remained in second place.
The market share of the Apple iPad 9 (WiFi) and iPad 9 (WiFi +4G) was 52% and 10%, respectively. The iPad Air 2022 (WiFi) and iPad Air 2022 (WiFi +5G) came in at 18% and 8%, respectively. Shipments of Apple iPads increased by an astounding 34% YoY in Q2 2022.

According to CMR, the shipping of Tablet PCs is expected to expand by 8–10% in 2022. “Driven by consumer and enterprise demand for new specialized use cases, such as intense gaming and productivity use cases, we foresee new hardware and software innovations, including larger tablet screen size, increased RAM, enhanced cameras, and battery amongst others. In the run-up to the festive season, we foresee the tablet market to witness intensified competition and increased market growth,” added Menka.
