Jose Mourinho creates history after reaching the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League final

The experienced Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho has now created history as he guided the Italian Serie A club Roma to the inaugural final of the UEFA Europa Conference League.

The two-time UEFA Champions League winner and two-time UEFA Europa League winner manager Jose Mourinho has a great reputation in the UEFA tournaments. The 59-year-old has maintained his great records in the UEFA tournament once again in the inaugural edition of the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Roma met the English Premier League team Leicester City in the recent semi-finals of the UEFA Europa Conference League 2021/22. While they had the 1-1 result in the first leg of that semi-final round at King Power Stadium (Leicester), the hosts Roma managed to count a 1-0 victory in the return leg last Thursday (5th May) night. English striker Tammy Abraham scored the solitary goal of the match that also decided the fate of that complete semi-final round.

In the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League final, Roma will face the Dutch first division team Feyenoord Rotterdam on 25th May 2022 at Arena Kombëtare (Tirana) in Albania. Before this final, Mourinho has already created incredible history in his managerial career.

  • The first manager to reach the finals of UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League.
  • The first manager to reach the final of a major European competition with four different clubs. Before his latest Roma assignment for the UEFA Europa Conference League final, he reached the UEFA Europa League finals for Porto (2003; UEFA Cup at that time) and Manchester United (2017), and UEFA Champions League finals for Porto (2004) and Inter Milan (2010).

The 59-year-old Jose Mourinho has a very good chance to become the first manager to win the UEFA Europa Conference League trophy. If he achieves this, he will also become the first manager to win three different UEFA tournaments that are currently running.

While Mourinho already has four trophies in overall UEFA competitions, he is very close to becoming the 10th manager to win at least five trophies in overall European club competitions.

Former Italian manager Giovanni Trapattoni, former Scottish manager Sir Alex Ferguson and another Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti is leading the table in winning most European club competitions as a manager with seven trophies each.
