Snapdragon 8 Gen1+ launch timeline surfaces along with some phones that are likely to feature it

Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 chip back in December 2021, as per recent reports, the company is now working on a ‘Plus’ edition of this chip. It is speculated that Qualcomm’s rumored chip with the SM8475 number may debut as the Snapdragon 8 Gen1+ chip. A report by Onsitego cites Yogesh Brar as the primary source and shares the launch timeline of the upcoming chip.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen1 is based on Samsung’s 4nm process while the Snapdragon 8 Gen1+ is based on TSMC’s 4nm semiconductor fabrication process. It is speculated that the Plus edition will be more efficient in comparison to the regular version.

The report claims that Qualcomm will announce the Snapdragon 8 Gen1+M in early May and the chipmaker will also unveil the Snapdragon 700-Series around the same time. The first devices powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen1+ will debut in June of 2022.

Some of the brands that are expected to launch flagship devices powered by this chip are Lenovo, OnePlus, Motorola, and Xiaomi. A report from January revealed that the upcoming Lenovo Legion phone, codenamed ‘Halo’ could be one of the first devices to debut with this chip.

It could feature a 6.67″ OLED FHD+ 144Hz display, a 16MP selfie shooter, and a 50MP+13MP+2MP triple camera setup. It comes with 16GB LPDDR5 RAM up to 256GB UFS 3.1 storage and a 5,000mAh battery with 68W fast charging support.

A Motorola flagship codenamed ‘Frontier’ featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen1+ chip is also in the making, it is expected to feature a 6.75″ OLED FHD+ 144Hz display with a 16MP selfie shooter, a 194MP+50MP+12MP rear camera setup, and up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM with 256GB UFS 3.1 storage, and a 4,500mAh battery with 125W fast charging support and 50W wireless charging support.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 and Galaxy Z Fold4 are also expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen1+ chipset.
