What would the Premier League 2020-21 standings look like without VAR?

Premier League’s 2020-21 season ended last weekend as Manchester City finished top of the table and claimed the title for the 7th time in their history.

However, VAR continues to divide the football community, despite being used two seasons in a row, and the 2020-21 season was no exception. The technology caused controversy throughout the season of disallowed goals and penalty decisions throughout the season.

But what would be table without VAR didn’t interferes this season?

According to the statistics, Manchester City still win the Premier League whereas Arsenal can find themselves in the top 4.

1. Arsenal in the top 4

Arsenal has finished 8th in the Premier League table and is out of the European competitions next season. But without VAR’s involvement, they might have finished in the 4th position above Chelsea, Leicester, and Tottenham, compared to the spot they actually ended up in.

2. Liverpool over Manchester United

Liverpool finished 3rd in the Premier League this season behind two Manchester clubs. But without VAR involved, they would finish 2nd over their old rivals.

3. Manchester City still become champion

Manchester City would still become the champion as they might lose just 1 point if VAR was not there.

A total of 123 decisions were changed this season by VAR, including 42 goals disallowed, 29 penalties awarded, 17 red cards given, and 22 spot-kicks renounced.
