MacBook Pro 13 & MacBook Air laptops powered by Apple ARM processors will enter mass production in Q4 2020

Apple made a historical decision last month by announcing their shift from tradition x86 based Intel CPUs to their in-house Apple Silicon chips i.e. ARM based processors. Obviously, the Cupertino giant is trying to make the transition smooth and fast working alongside developers on the software front and now with recent reports, it seems they are also working on the hardware as well.

Although the architecture for ARM processors are different their iPadOS and iOS are fully compatible with them, so the macOS with a lot of similar apps like the other two makes it easier for Apple to switch its own apps but work is needed for other apps which need some changes to utilize all the cores in an ARM chip.

Apple Silicon for next-gen Macs announced at WWDC 2020

Apple has already demoed the recently announced macOS Big Sur running on MacBook with Apple chip i.e. the A12Z Bionic chip and even the developer kits provided too are powered by the same chip. According to MacRumors, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, a 13.3-inch MacBook Pro could actually be the first Mac to get an Arm-based chip designed by Apple.

In a research note with TF International Securities seen by MacRumours, Kuo said he expects the ‌Apple Silicon‌ 13.3-inch ‌MacBook Pro‌ to go into mass production in the fourth quarter of this year, but he also now predicts we will see an Arm-based MacBook Air either in the same quarter or in the first quarter of next year.

Kuo still believes that Apple intends to launch a mini-LED 16-inch ‌‌MacBook Pro‌‌ and a 14.1-inch ‌MacBook Pro‌, also with a mini-LED display, but these will likely arrive in the second or third quarter of 2021, and intriguingly, both will have an “all-new form factor design.” Now, this statement is still valid for the previously announced 16-inch ‌‌MacBook Pro but not for the yet to be released, 14-inch model.

Regardless of the fact that when actually these Apple chip based MacBooks will arrive but it is evident Apple is working hard to make the transition happen. Also if these new MacBooks are more or less powerful like Intel CPUs and if Apple saves some money and reduces the cost of MacBook up to some extent then the future of MacBooks can totally change.
