Three days. Rs 95 crore. And just Rs 5 crore away from a century. Welcome to the Jungle has done what very few Bollywood comedies manage anymore — it’s pulled audiences back into cinemas with some serious opening weekend muscle. But is it enough for a franchise of this pedigree? That’s where things get interesting.

Good Numbers — But Is It Enough?
As per estimates, the film fetched Rs 95 crore in its first weekend worldwide — just Rs 5 crore short of the Rs 100 crore gross mark. The day-on-day trajectory is encouraging: a clean jump from Friday to Saturday to Sunday shows the word of mouth is working.

But context matters. The treatment of comedy in Welcome to the Jungle is more of a parody/spoof compared to the previous two Welcome films, which were large-scale family entertainers. This naturally limits its appeal. Add to that the absence of fan-favourite characters Uday and Majnu — two pillars of the original franchise — and the brand pull is somewhat neutralised.
Director Ahmad Khan has delivered a film that’s clearly enjoyable in the moment, but the numbers suggest a portion of the traditional Welcome audience hasn’t shown up yet.
The Road Ahead — Tough But Not Impossible
The film faces significant competition in the coming weeks, with Alpha, Dhamaal 4, The Odyssey, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day all lined up as major releases. Sustaining momentum against that calendar will be the real test.
If the weekday drop is controlled and word-of-mouth holds, the film can comfortably cross Rs 150 crore nett in India — making it a profitable venture. Miss the weekdays and it’ll be a tighter finish.
