Weapons Trailer: Josh Brolin Leads Chilling Search for Missing Children in Zach Cregger’s Latest Horror

The Weapons Trailer dropped — and it wastes no time plunging viewers into a spiraling nightmare. Zach Cregger, the mastermind behind 2022’s surprise hit Barbarian, returns with another spine-chilling vision.

Led by Josh Brolin and Julia Garner, Weapons explores the haunting aftermath of a mass disappearance that rocks a quiet Florida town to its core. With mystery, tension, and psychological torment baked into every frame, the film promises to push the genre envelope once again.

A Creepy Voice Introduces a Town’s Descent into Chaos

The Weapons Trailer opens with an unsettling voiceover: “This is a true story that happened in my town.” The line immediately sets a disturbing tone, guiding us into the bizarre case of several Maybrook Elementary School students vanishing in the middle of the night.

According to the narrator, the children climbed out of bed, walked downstairs, and exited their homes at exactly 2:17 AM. The town spirals into fear and confusion as families search for answers. The trailer repeatedly emphasizes this mysterious timestamp, making it a likely linchpin of the entire story.

Star Power Drives the Tension

Josh Brolin commands the screen as a determined investigator unraveling the eerie disappearance. Julia Garner delivers a gripping performance as Justine Gandy, the teacher whose classroom holds the key to the enigma. Her visible torment escalates throughout the Weapons Trailer, from moments of shock and denial to emotional breakdowns in her car. “I don’t understand at all. Why just her classroom, why only hers?” a community member questions, underscoring the suspicion that begins to build around her.

Joining the cast are Alden Ehrenreich, Benedict Wong, Amy Madigan, Austin Abrams, June Diane Raphael, and Cary Christopher — each seemingly caught in the web of this mysterious catastrophe.

Zach Cregger Dives Deeper into Horror

With Weapons, director Zach Cregger continues his evolution from sketch comedy to horror with striking precision. After captivating audiences with Barbarian, he now leans into atmospheric storytelling and psychological depth. “I don’t think horror and comedy are too dissimilar,” Cregger told Variety in 2022. “The anatomy of a scare is very similar to the anatomy of a laugh. It’s all about timing and tone and zigging when the audience expects you to zag.”

The Weapons Trailer clearly shows Cregger’s mastery of this approach. He balances eerie silence with sharp, unexpected bursts of tension, crafting a mood that lingers long after the trailer ends.

Jordan Peele’s Guidance Enhances the Project

Cregger didn’t develop this vision alone. Fellow horror auteur Jordan Peele offered invaluable advice during production. “He gave me a crash course on how to handle the inevitable challenges, and that was so valuable,” Cregger revealed. Peele’s mentorship appears to have strengthened the film’s narrative cohesion and thematic complexity, adding another layer of anticipation to the movie’s release.

Garner’s Redemption Arc in Horror

After starring in Wolf Man, which drew mixed reactions and modest ticket sales, Julia Garner looks set to redeem herself in Weapons. The trailer showcases her exploring emotional extremes, haunted by the unexplained disappearance of her students.

As she searches for the truth, Justine Gandy must confront personal demons and social backlash, making her arc one of the most compelling elements teased in the Weapons Trailer.

Visual Clues and Story Hints Build Suspense

Cregger cleverly weaves hints throughout the Weapons Trailer. The recurring 2:17 AM timestamp, shadowy visuals, and a slow unraveling of character sanity suggest that the horror stems not just from the event but also from the psychological fallout. The visuals show empty classrooms, flickering lights, and parents in full panic mode — all pointing toward a deeper, more sinister explanation.

Weapons Trailer Hypes a Terrifying Theatrical Ride

Set for release on August 8, Weapons hits theaters through New Line with production support from Vertigo’s Roy Lee and Miri Yun, alongside BoulderLight Pictures’ Raphael Margules and J.D. Lifshitz. As the trailer gains traction, fans of modern horror are already speculating on its twists and hidden messages.

The Weapons Trailer makes it clear — this isn’t just about missing kids. It’s about fear, trauma, and unraveling truth. With a stellar cast, a proven director, and a chilling mystery at its center, Weapons might just become one of 2025’s most talked-about horror films.
