We Are All Trying Here: Oh Jung Se’s New K-Drama Is About Successful People Who Still Feel Like Failures!

JTBC’s upcoming drama We Are All Trying Here is the relatable slice-of-life show K-drama fans didn’t know they desperately needed.

We’ve all been there — watching someone else’s highlight reel and wondering why our own life feels so off-track. JTBC’s We Are All Trying Here taps right into that very human feeling, and Oh Jung Se’s latest interview about his character makes it even more compelling.

What Is We Are All Trying Here About?

The drama tells the story of Hwang Dong Man (Koo Kyo Hwan), who, surrounded by accomplished friends, believes he is the only one whose life isn’t working out. Consumed by anguish, envy, and jealousy, he sets out on a journey in search of peace.

It’s the kind of premise that feels ripped straight from real life — and that’s exactly what makes it so exciting. This is classic slice-of-life storytelling done the Korean drama way.

Oh Jung Se’s Character: Successful on the Outside, Struggling Within

Oh Jung Se takes on the role of Park Kyung Se, a successful director who has helmed five films and is a member of an elite group of eight prominent filmmakers.

But don’t let the impressive résumé fool you. Oh Jung Se described Park Kyung Se as “an adult who is still growing,” noting that despite appearing successful, the character is constantly striving to prove his worth — either to climb higher or to avoid falling from where he stands.

That tension between outward success and inner insecurity is something most of us feel — and Oh Jung Se’s performance promises to capture it with raw honesty.

Key Details at a Glance

The Koo Kyo Hwan & Oh Jung Se Dynamic Is the Heart of the Show

The dynamic between Hwang Dong Man — 20 years an aspiring director without success — and Park Kyung Se, who feels anxious despite his achievements, serves as both a source of humor and an exploration of characters wrestling with feelings of worthlessness.

Oh Jung Se explained that while the world sees Hwang Dong Man as someone full of inferiority complex, Park Kyung Se actually views him as “another version of himself” — someone they simultaneously support and envy. That’s the kind of nuanced friendship rarely seen on screen.

Oh Jung Se also reunites with director Cha Young Hoon of When the Camellia Blooms fame, which is reason enough to be excited.
