Vox Machina Season 4 Episodes 7–9 Recap: Whitestone’s Dark Secrets and the Cliffhanger That Broke the Fandom

Prime Video just dropped the most emotionally devastating batch of episodes in Vox Machina history. Buckle up.

Vox Machina: Episode Guide

Episode 7 — “The Ghosts of Whitestone”: Delilah’s Heartbreaking Truth

Percy, unable to sleep and obsessed with the orb, wanders Whitestone Castle at night and discovers a hidden passageway leading deep beneath the mansion. The group splits up to investigate, with Trinket and Taryon staying behind as the last line of defence — only for Delilah to appear and immediately spook Taryon.

The real revelation comes with Keyleth. She discovers Delilah’s journal and a rare, withered flower meant for a resurrection ritual. The tragic truth emerges — everything Delilah has done started because she was desperately trying to bring her beloved husband Sylas back from the dead.

It’s also revealed that Delilah was the “Necro Ninja” who blinded Keyleth’s father during her coronation — a gut punch that reframes the entire season.

Episode 8 — “The Bard’s Lament”: Scanlan Says No

Vox Machina tracks down Scanlan, whom they urgently need — along with the legendary sword Mythcarver — if they hope to defeat the Whispered One. Scanlan feels cautiously optimistic seeing old friends, but the mood sours when he realizes the visit is largely about obtaining his weapon and recruiting him for battle. Deeply hurt, he refuses to rejoin the group.

He does, however, hand Mythcarver over to Pike — a moment especially devastating for her, given that she clearly loves Scanlan and is already drowning in grief after losing her grandfather Wilhand the day before. Mamasgeeky

Episode 9 — “The Temple of Truth”: Grog’s Fate and the Cliffhanger

The latest batch of episodes ends on a stunning cliffhanger — Grog is turned to dust after getting too close to one of the magical spheres used by the Children of Truth to travel. Pike, having just lost Wilhand the day before, is left devastated.

Determined and blinded by grief and rage, Pike takes her amulet and charges alone through the portal — disappearing into the Whispered One’s domain. Grog’s fate remains unclear, Pike is missing, and Vax’s condition continues to worsen. Sportskeeda

Why This Arc Matters

What makes these episodes especially compelling is the parallel between Delilah and Keyleth — both women are driven by the desperate desire to save someone they love, but pursue it in completely opposite ways. It makes Delilah sympathetic while preserving her villainy, and shows what she could have been. FandomWire
