Some roles find an actor at exactly the right moment. For Hani, marking her comeback to acting after a three-year break, “Love on the Menu” turned out to be one of those roles — and she’s opened up about why it resonated so deeply.
Love On The Menu: A Story Of Second Chances
“Love on the Menu” is a family romance drama that follows Kim Moo Jin (Ha Seok Jin) and Han Gyu Rim (Hani), two former lovers who reunite eight years after a painful breakup. As they reconnect, they gradually piece their broken families back together, building something warm out of the wreckage of their past.
Stepping Into A Weekend Drama For The First Time
Making her weekend drama debut, Hani admitted the format brought a mix of excitement and pressure, since weekend dramas are the kind families tend to watch together. That sense of responsibility clearly shaped how she approached the character.
Why Han Gyu Rim Stuck With Her
Hani explained that what drew her to the role wasn’t a tragic backstory for its own sake, but how Han Gyu Rim refuses to let hardship turn her bitter — she keeps protecting the people she loves and finding her way back to a smile. To prepare, Hani said she focused on layering two identities into the character: a mother figure who shoulders everyone else’s burdens, and a daughter who still quietly needs care herself.
| Character Trait | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Resilience | Persevered daily to protect her family, even when she wanted to give up |
| Love | Every lie or moment of running away came from a place of protecting others |
| Strength | Still finds ways to smile and show kindness despite everything |
A Personal Comeback
Returning to acting for the first time in three years, Hani described the drama as a story about people choosing to keep loving and living fully, imperfections and old wounds included, and said she hopes it becomes a warm watch for families.
Family-centered weekend dramas like this one remain a beloved staple of the broader Korean drama genre, known for turning everyday domestic struggles into heartfelt television.
While waiting for the premiere, fans can catch Hani in “Hit the Spot,” currently streaming on Viki.
