1. Possible Love: The Oscar Contender (Nov 6)
Directed by Lee Chang Dong, this 164-minute romantic drama is one of Netflix’s most anticipated foreign-language films of the year. It has already screened at several film festivals to strong reviews, and South Korea has entered it in the Best International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards.
The story follows two married couples: a laid-off worker and his wife, and a documentary filmmaker and her husband. When the filmmaker sets out to film them, both marriages come face to face with hidden desires and very different lives. The cast includes Jeon Do Yeon, Sul Kyung Gu, Zo In Sung, Cho Yeo Jung and Jo Yu Ri.
Impatient viewers have an option: the film had a limited US theatrical release starting October 23.
2. Blue Road: A Crime Thriller Without Borders (Nov 20)
Blue Road pairs South Korea’s Son Suk Ku with Japan’s Eita Nagayama, a highly anticipated team-up. The eight-episode series is described as one of Netflix’s final K-dramas of the year, closing out a strong run for the genre. Its first three episodes premiered at this year’s Busan International Film Festival.
The plot is gripping: a disfigured body is found in Tokyo with a message written in blood in Korean. Soon, a similar case appears in Korea, this time with a message in Japanese. Investigators realise a serial killer is working across countries, and a joint investigation takes two detectives from Seoul to Tokyo and beyond. Kim Shin Rok, Choi Sung Eun and Jung Jae Young also star.
3. Doctor X: The Medical Hit Nears Its Finale (Nov 14)
This 12-episode medical drama stars Kim Ji Won, Lee Jung Eun, Son Hyun Joo, Kim Woo Seok and Kang Hak Soo. New episodes arrive on Fridays and Saturdays, with the finale on November 14.
It follows Kye Su Jeong, a genius surgeon placed at Guseo University Hospital through a doctor placement agency. She proves herself with her skills and exposes absurdities in the medical field, and she becomes involved with the hospital’s director and an intern.
4. 100 Days of Deception: A Period Spy Romance (Finale Nov 29)
This 16-episode drama stars Kim You Jung and Park Jinyoung, with Kim Hyun Joo, Lee Moo Saeng and Jin Sun Kyu. New episodes arrive on Saturdays and Sundays, and the finale lands on November 29.
Set during the Japanese occupation of Korea, it follows Ga Kyung, a genius pickpocket who works for the independence army. She goes undercover as a spy inside the Japanese Government-General of Korea. She plans to play a fake spy for her own ends, but before long she is feeding crucial information to the independence army.
