On social media, Indian chess grandmaster D Gukesh posted a video of himself swaying to Rajinikanth’s latest hit song, “Manasilayo.” The famous player, dressed in traditional clothing, was spotted dancing with a group, abandoning his chess plays for dance routines.

The 18-year-old is presently taking a break after playing a key role in India’s historic first-ever gold medal win at the 2024 Chess Olympiad in Budapest. Wearing shades, a “veshti,” and a red kurta, Gukesh is shown dancing to the hit song’s hook alongside his similarly attired relatives and friends. The chess pro approaches the camera, smiles, and ends the video.

He wrote, “Manasilayo…with my family friends!” as the photo’s description.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented Gukesh and his teammates with awards in New Delhi. The grandmaster will then compete in the forthcoming World Championship in Singapore against Ding Liren, the Chinese champion. The winner will get a $2.5 million reward, and the tournament will take place from November 20 to December 15.
