The grand final began ominously for Team Liquid as SELANGOR RED GIANTS took the opening game convincingly. However, the Filipino champions showed their championship mettle by responding with four consecutive victories, demonstrating remarkable mental fortitude under pressure.
“I honestly can’t fathom how I feel right now,” said Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno. “I am insanely happy, the feeling is so much different from other tournaments I have won.”
Sanford Shines as SONY MVP
Sanford “Sanford” Vinuya earned the SONY MVP recognition for his instrumental role in the comeback victory, receiving an additional $10,000 and the prestigious MVP medal. His performance exemplified the team’s resilience and tactical excellence.
“I owe it to my teammates,” said Vinuya. “I have grown into a strong fighter, so thank you so much.”
Club Championship Dominance
This victory propels Team Liquid to commanding heights in the Club Championship standings with 3,200 points, significantly ahead of second-place Team Falcons at 2,700 points. Remarkably, Team Liquid ended the incredible streak of 12 unique title winners in the first 12 EWC events by claiming back-to-back championships.
The defending Mid Season Cup champions, SELANGOR RED GIANTS, fought valiantly through the lower bracket semifinals and delivered two thrilling 3-2 knockout victories to reach the final, but ultimately couldn’t match Team Liquid’s championship-level execution.
